Currently using mobile 1 5w30 b/c I could get a good deal on it, but I dont really like how thin is seems to get when its real hot outside or after running the car hard, even for a real short time so may be switching to somthing else soon.

That water is real good stuff, can't beat the price either. Add 4 drops of Dawn every other oil change to clean out the sludge though. If you don't it might screw up your bearings...

I'm going to be getting the conventional oil analyzed in mine right before switching to German castrol 0w30. I'm interested in seeing what kinds of results I get before and after.

yeah, comparing what parts came on the car versus what fluids to use is such a good comparison/reason not to listen to them. (shrug)

Wow I was pointing out the fact that GM's friendly suggestion to use mobil 1 5w-30 doesn't need to be followed like its damn law. For that matter the Camaro SS had an option to come with Castrol Syntec Right from SLP. The only reason mobil one is suggested from the factory is $$ it has nothing to do with the engineering side the only part of it that does is the 5w-30. Lastly GC 0w-30 is a bit thicker then mobil 1 5w-30 despite what you would think and has done very good in testing in LS motors so thats why I use it.

Mobil-1 10W-40 High Mileage for normal driving.

Mobil-1 15W-50 for road course track days.

Single-digit wear metals on every Blackstone oil analysis I've sent in, even running 15W-50 during normal driving during the Summer.

in my first post i said other oils could be used, but mobile 1 is what gm recomends. also, i ordered my camaro ss from the dealership and there was no castrol oil option on the list.lol i never heard that one before. (castrol is good oil though). anyway u talked about axles earlier, i dont know what that had to do with this thread but,

if u like the LS1 engine, then why would i not listen to the engineers who made it and recomend mobil 1? thats all im saying

man, i didnt know u were a master-tech?, and would get so bent out of shape over this. lol

i use mobile one, when I did my first oil change prior my oil pressure was at 35-38 at idle and reved up to almost 60, when I did the oil change with mobile one it was 40-42 at idle and over 60 steadily. Made a world of difference. Plus autozone keeps running specials for about 30$ for mobile one with mobile one filter so aslong as they keep running it I will keep buying it.

They had a castrol syntec performance fluids option from slp Im sure of it look it up. As for the rest of im just breakin ***** man.
My point with the axles was the 7.625 10-bolt was a horrible rear end for this kind of car yet the engineering stuff used it anyways. I was trying to say just because gm says mobil 1 5w-30 doesn't mean that theres not better oils out there.

The only oil that performs better than Synthetic 5-30 Mobil in the IAV wear test (google it) is the new Castrol Edge Synthetic 5-30 and it's by a margin of less than 0.0002% (also Google it) both are so far over and above the industry standard it just doesn't matter

For what it's worth I use Mobil 1 synthetic and a Royal purple filter in everything I own.

German Castrol is 0w-30 and is thicker then mobil 1. It has showed better wear time and time again over mobil 1 5w-30 in LS engines. Has mobil 1 changed there formula here recently?

Even though I can see Mobil 1 is a popular brand to use, this is a very "hot" topic.
I run Mobil 1 10w-40 in the winter and 15w-50 in the summer...LA gets very hot and I have 100k on the clock.

Maybe this was covered but what I don't understand is how Vette's call for Mobil 1 and Camaro's didn't yet they use the same motors.

I know Mobil 1 and Castrol Synthetic brands have held good reputations...Pennzoil not so much-penn Platinum may be a different story.

Like someone else said, do you oil changes every 3-6k miles depending on vehicle abuse and you should be good.

Amsoil oil is way too expensive IMO that other off the shelf oils will do just as good.
Just my opinion, in no way is it law. I think it comes to down personal experience and interactions with what friends deal with too.

Used to use German Castrol 0w30 in the LS1 and my previous LS6 (C5Z06).

We are using Valvoline VR1 in the stroker.
