I thought SLP's should fit without modification, but I could be wrong.

Also most ppl just upgrade to the LS2 chain, which is much beefier than the LS1.

I got an LS2 when I did my cam swap and for $40 compared to like $150 it's a no brainer!

double roller is overkill, get a ls2 chain and you will be more than fine.

Just run a single chain. Chances are you wouldnt be asking any of us in here if you were actually making power that would break a single roller. We would be getting advice from you at that point.

LS2 chain and done. It's easier to install and makes a cam swap that much easier as well.

its not any harder to install a double chain than it is to install a single chain...
oooo..one extra thing to pull off the crank snout...just need a puller with slightly thinner hooks(I ended up grinding flat the backsides f the hooks on my puller so it could get in there..its a little tight and regular curved jaws dont always fit)

and why not pay the extra to be safe...you dont loose any power from a double chain and its a good piece of mind...

also its not only high power that can snap a single...
lots of miles, or lots of high rpm's can break a single as well

yeah but its like having seatbelts on a couch...

I think a double chain is a pain to deal with cause its just more bulk in the way.

OP:You dont need a double roller. But I'm not here to tell you what you want. Its your car, do what you please. You asked what we thought, so I told you my suggestion and why.

tell that to my buddy's previous motor....6800rpm and a lot of track time = broken single chain for him

how is it "in the way"?

personaly I dont see any reason to not go with a double chain in your racing motor...if you only plan to daily drive it, and it isnt going to see high rpm's(6500+) and you wont be racing it or going to the track.. then by all means..you only need a single chain..
if you are going to do any of the things mentioned above.. then why not have piece of mind..but the double.

Was he running a stock chain?

So the single chain that the C5r ran while racing wasnt enough?

I'm not saying its a bad choice, but most people are looking for bang for their buck. Yeah, if its installed. Great. you can get an LS2 chain for 40$ roughly at the dealership of all places.

Double doesn't always equal better. Katech knows this(C5R). If everything is correct on the motor it shouldn't break a chain regardless. Use a TC damper and avoid ASP underdrive dampers, heavy valvetrain and it should last forever wether you are at 900hp or 400.

Soundengineer- Plenty of LS guys have broken double rollers. Do a search. Just because many uneducated people in this country preach bigger is better, does not make it so.. Road racing is much harder on parts(C5R) than any drag racing you will ever do. A timing chain is the last thing you need to worry about. Harmonics break timing chains, not power or high rpms. Think about it, a double is going to be heavier. Whats better at high rpm, light or heavy?...ah ha! Your logic is flawed dude.

Call Katech and tell them how they are idiots for running a single chain in a race motor.

I believe the ls2 is just a bulkier chain. FWIW the person who is building my engine has an iron block stroker, running 9.90s on motor, has been for a few years now, has a stock chain, and spins to 7400+ rpm. Stock oil pump and timing chain, never a problem. Double is NOT always better.

also, we are running a jp performance single chain, true roller, with billet gears, about a 100 dollar set, but a VERY heavy duty set.

If you do a search, you can find pics of LS1 chains next to the LS2. The LS2 chain is a direct replacement for the LS1 chain, but way thicker. I was surprised when I had them side by side, but I didn't take a pic of it when I was doing my install.

Do you have a link for this this chain? I'd like to see what it looks like.
