5.3 w/ 317 heads
i am doing research on building a 5.3 turbo. i was just wondering what the compression ratio would be on a stock 5.3 w/ 317 heads & how much boost would it hold w/ 118 race gas? thanx for any help!

Combustion chambers are close to 10cc bigger on a stock 317. Stock 5.3 cr is 9.1:1 in the trucks. 10 more cc and you're down in the mid to low 8s compression wise. Room for more boost than a stock bottom end could hold I feel.

If you wanted to go forged in the bottom strap those heads on it and run 20lbs of boost, then it'd be worth it. Otherwise I'd go with a set of ported 5.3 heads from TSP and something like the 228r cam. If it's staying in the truck use the truck intake, if not get the LS6 manifold. Tune it and you'd have a pretty damn stout motor.

You could also put a 241 casting LS1 head on it. It would drop the compression some but not that much as a 317 casting. It would be a CHEAP easy way to drop the compression and give you a little more room for boost. However, you stock pistons are going to be your limiting factory I'm afraid.
