I'd like to see pictures of how you are using the metal dowels. Are you just inserting them where the pushrod goes? And if you are... whats keeping the lifters in place?

Here is a cam install post I ran across

Scroll down to post 13 on page 1. You"ll see the pic where the 2 metal rods are sticking out next to the cam. Once you remove the cam retainer plate, you"ll see the 2 oil galley holes where the dowel rods go. Buy one 5/16 48 inch long rod, cut it in half & thats all you need to hold up the lifters. Remember to remove your rocker arms first, then spin your cam a few times. This will push the lifters up into the lifter trays so you can slide the dowels in. It doesnt have to be metal either, I just bought a wood dowel. Theyre cheaper too & work just as good.
