Cam installation tips/suggestions
When I did mine, I was nervous about the lifter falling so we did pen magnets and the 5/16 rod method.
However when I looked down the holes, I got nervous about the rods still letting the lifters potentially fall, so luckily I had a spare 5.3 block laying around so I pulled it out and put a set of lifters in it.
I found that the rod will NOT let the lifter fall. No Matter how hard I tried to push the lifters past the rod (via pushrod, in my test block), they would not budge past the rod, and here is why:
There is a ledge on the lifter (like shown)

With the rod slid into the oil holes it rest along the lifters between the ledges (as shown below)

So for those doing a swap, that arent as brave as others doing the "spin the cam, then pray" method. The 5/16 rod method is good insurance, that way you dont have to pull your motor if one does fall.
Also, the left side shows not sludge build up, but the right side does? Another mystery I'm trying to solve.
Thanks all..
