Question Which Heads to get with X1 cam?

Ok Guys here is the Scoop,I have wanted to do Heads and Cam for a long time ,not able to due to funds I was thinking about going to the X1 Cam.Here is my Delema,Is it even worth the $700.00 + Core to go with AFR's vs. the Patriot LS6 style Heads? If we are talking 5-10 WRHP and 5-10 RWT then I can take that 700.00+ into something Else. What are your Thoughts???
TIA

personally I dont think so but nobody has really tested them yet so if your that torn wait another 2-3 months till 10 or so dynos have been done if there are guys hitting 500rwhp with the afr's whereas they wouldve been in the 470 range with some S2-3 LS6 style heads ya id say go for them otherwise id stay away and use the extra grand on something else.

If I were you I'd spend that extra money on a good set of LT headers and get rid of the MACs, or you could save a little more and get the new FAST intake. Just go with the Patriots, they put down good numbers.

With like exhaust systems, I am skeptical that the difference in the heads would be more than 10 RWHP. There's just so good you can get them. Period. Most of the good heads out there now are plenty efficient and are hard to improve past a certain level. Wait if you want to, but I can pretty much bet the AFR's will not be the end-all-be-all heads. Worth the money...not to me.

Or you could go with a proven product like TEA. We've done SEVERAL reverse split (X1) cars here with great results running TEA heads. The average is 430+ rwhp and over 400 rwtq....

See sig for TEA Stg 1.5 #'s and a cam somewhat the same size as the X1.....

Unhappy

All this Heads Talk I dont know where to go But if I could afford it,I would go with MTI Stage2 LS6 heads but 2800+1200 core is way out off my pocket bookI am Leaning towards Patriots because of core charge,I dont really want to get rid of my Stock heads ,unless the price is right

I will have to agree on this one. With a 224 cam and not all the bolt on's with macs, I put down the numbers in my sig through a 12 bolt on 17" rims. I really like the TEA's...

Nothing like a warranty to add peace of mind also. TEA has a 2yr warranty on all of their assembled heads. That in itself would get my business. Not to mention the results that that have been making lately......I also like the fact they use name brand componets in their valvetrain. I want to know the heart of my engine has the highest quality componets possible!!! Goodluck whatever you decide.

BTW, LoNslo made 449rwhp with TEA 1.5s and the X1 almost 6 months ago and ran 11.20s@124mph in a 3400lb car... Just food for thought...

Or you could give Jay from Absolute speed a call and he will sell you a set of his stage 2 heads for 1,280.00 on his 20 percent off GP. Jays heads have always been in high demand and now he can satisfy the demand with these new Stage 2's. Also, i bet he would give you a good price on his port matched LS6 intake and throttlebody if you got in on his GP

Actually Jays' GP ended on the 16th. However, he still has 10% off his current pricing until further notice. Jay ports a mean head for sure!!!

Bottom line man, every shop has their "pimps" I feel comfortable with TEA for the reasons stated above. Quality, reliability, warranty, power all come to mind when Im spending big bucks.... TEA has all of the above.

T.E.A heads are pretty darn sweet for sure. I would still give Jay a call and see what he can do for you. I only say this because its the rout i went and i was, like all these other guys in your shoes.

I agree there are a lot of heads available out there, but you really do get what you pay for when it comes to the MTI heads. There is a lot of R&D that goes into these heads and the customer service is untouchable. Call Jayson or Wayne and tell them what your situation is and they will guide you in the right direction. The MTI X1 and a set of MTI S2 heads.......SSSSWEEEETTT combination! I went a little on the mild side , but no one complains except for my competition. Good luck.

Mouse, read his reply again....

LoNSlo ran 11.20's @ 124 mph. His car made 449 rwhp through a 9 inch ....BTW, these were "off the shelf" TEA heads. Not even hand finished....

TEA heads can be bought from TEA themselves....270-782-6397

Their website hasn't been updated, give them a call....

TEA's w/the X1 would prove to be an excellent combo well into the 450+ range w/the correct setup.

I had LS6 intake, MTIstg2 heads, mac headers w/ory, and Corsa and was making 440 rwhp....436 really on the dyno, but **** that was with no wind blowing or nothing on a hot *** day......

Don't expect a Lopey idle from the X1...mine barely sounded like it had a cam in the car.......but made excellent HP.

As Damian said, a board member(local buddy of mine) was the times. Not me. He had a Ford 9" with 4:30 gears when he made the 449rwhp. His car drove like stock and trapped 124mph, cant ask for much more than that.

His #s were made on a Dynojet which does read higher than a Mustang dyno because the Mustang dyno loads the car. You will probably be about 20 to 30 rwhp less on a Mustang dyno Vs Dynojet. Goodluck ....

MTI S2Es. Main difference from the full blown S2s being the smaller valves. I have not seen any evidence of the 2.055/1.6 valves making any more power in a 346.
