Default 6.0 in a dragster......

Guys,

I have a 2001 6.0 block, crank pistons and rods with only 3k miles, 853 heads and i would like to put something together to drop it in a dragster but i am looking for about 450 to 500 horses. Any combinations? Since life is tuff at this time, i am looking into somekind of a low budget.

Thanks in advance,

57

That's no problem with a 6.0L engine. There are several stock cube LS1's
putting down 440+ at the wheels with external bolt-ons and a camshaft.

What sort of dragster are you going to build?

Got a rear engine frame and body cheap. I guess this is the right time to buy stuff since you can find everything so cheap. I am Working on the wiring and other stuff. I only paid $80 for this motor. I saw one on youtube running into the 8.'s on the 1/4 so i only want something to have fun while i put together a big block. Thanks!

243/799 heads would be a good step up, bumping compression and adding flow. They're not crazy cheap, but should help get you to your hp goal.

Are you planning on staying FI or going carb?

Either way, a set of aftermarket rod bolts will let you spin it with some peace of mind, and with a carbed intake will also let you use its intended rpm range.

Check this out!!

I saw this car going 8.40's on youtube. Not bad!....and even a 12 bolt chevy rear.
I have a Dana 60 for mine with 40 spline axles and titanium spool. Heavy but for the price can not beat it.

Budget wise, I think the 243's on a stockish 6.0 are a better value than the l92 setup, although the l92 setup will yield more power when everything is setup. The larger combustion chambers keep the compression low, and I'm a fan of as much compression as the fuel you have [readily] available.

243's don't need a crazy split cam to work properly, and can be had far cheaper than a set of l92's. I like the L92's, but not for a total budget build.

Don't get dad new socks or a grill brush this year.
