Default ls1 weak spots?

i posted a thread earlier about makin it to colorado from north carolina with my camaro(178k miles).

im thinkin i can do it, but what are the weak spots i should look into replacing before i leave home? (Ie; pushrods, oilpump, starter, etc)

i know for example the opti on lt1 cars are notorious for going bad, but i havent heard much about weak links like this in the 98-02 cars. any help wold be greatly appreciated

there is not really any, i would just make sure your car is up to date on its maintenance like (all your fluids, spark plugs, fuel filter,) basic stuff.

The oil pumps do have a tendency to go out but there is no reason to go though all the work to replace it, plus yours is better then the earlier years.

The only weak spot on them is the rod bolts from 99 - 01 other than that you should be good to go.

Just do the routine maintenance the manuel requires at your mileage and drive it unless you know something else needs work.....

I would not bother with the fuel pump, odds are it will be just fine. You can either drop the rearend and tank to get to it or use the trap door method.

i would just do an extensive check on everything and change all fluids. Its not like your going to be revving the car up to 7k on the trip out there. so if there are no problems now then you'll be fine.

Water pump on my car and my fathers WS6 both went at around 115k. Weird coincidence. Agree with the other posters get a fresh oil change, check all fluids, replace filters, check all lines and brakes and cross your fingers.

my car had 170k miles on it and i drove to florida and the stock fuel pump went out in BFE georgia on my way home. Other than that not one single problem in the 2500 mile round trip.

I just got a ride to lows and bought a dremel, cut off wheels, flat blad screw driver, and a rubber mallet.

Stopped at napa and bought a pump, changed it on the side of the interstate in about 45minutes and was back in business.

Its a relative to what you can do, or if you wanna worry about it. I never thought id have a problem but i did. fixed it and went on. These cars can run 200k plus with good up keep so i wouldnt worry.

Internals dont just go out at high mileage. Unless you pound it. Usually they show signs....oil consumption... smoke...lifter noise... rattle at start up...etc. some of my vehicles are high mileage cars. 160k on my vette, 230k on my tahoe, 225k on another truck. Usually its the accesories that go out... Alternator, starter, sensors sometimes, belts, hoses...etc.

I know I had to pull my radiator in the vette and power wash it... but those suck more off the road than an f-body. Like the others stated... maintenance.
