Question TR Raptor cam install?

Ok guys this is the situation. I've been reading up on ls1howto.com for my cam install. My concern is that some people degree their cam and some don't. So will I be okay installing it the way ls1howto says to do it or is it absoutly necessary to degree the cam. Is their really going to be a by difference?

I really want to install my cam by this weekend and tuned.
Thanks for the help.

Hey kenR, so howdoes your car perform with the raptor cam. Any hp/tq numbers, any trap speed or 1/4 mile times.

So dot to dot is what I'll do then. Makes me feel alittle better.

I will post numbers once I get all my stuff together.

Don't have any hp/tq numbers for you. I haven't ran it in the 1/4 either. My 1/8 time is 7.9x at 90 mph. Not the greatest but I also have shitty 273's still.

dot-dot straight up install is fine. If you start trying to degree it, thats when you have to get SERIOUS about PTV clearances, to the thousandth on pushrods and a whole lot more...

I have gone Dot to Dot everytime except once, and it was a royal whipping. Measurements will start making you lose sleep.

You should be able to take a 5.Slow with no cam and no shot.

I wouldn't degree that cam, it is pretty aggressive. Unless you have fly cut pistons (minimal) you will have p to v issues. Plus most cams come with advance or retard ground in; and off the shelf cams are built to be dot to dot.

Redz02 are you telling me because my cam is aggressive that I should degree it or not. When I talked to TR thy said I should have no ptv issues as it's made to clear with stock heads.

Well I got my stuff a day early and will be starting tomorrow 7 in the morning.

Ha ! I'm calling into work sick tomorrow to work on my car. It's been two months since I have driven my car.

You can pre-soak them if you want. That is how I do it. Red was probably saying install it straight up. Here's the thing, Thunder told you that you wouldnt have any ptv issues if you installed it straight up maybe adv/ret 1°-2°. If you get it off by more than that you could have PTV problems.

You won't have any PtV clearance issues if you do it dot to dot. Just make sure you double check it. I had more than enough clearance though

ok i got it all torn apart. so now for the lifters. since im using the push rods (7.425) TR provided for me do i just torque down the rocker arms to their specified torque spec in sequence starting with piston number 1 and so fourth.

However I read something that once I torque the rocker arms that I should turn it one more half turn to set preload. Is this correct or is this only done on adjustable rocker arms.

Its been my impression since our fbodys only come stock with non adjustable rocker arms that preload is set by just torquing down the rocker arm to is specified torque also given that both intake and exhaust valve is on the base circle of the cam..

thanks again guys for the input.
