The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
Pm me if you have any other tips or need to do to fix this.
I measured the side-to-side play on the trunion after bearing installation per Comp Cam instructions and it comes out around 0.010" ~ 0.012". I had one that was about 0.022" and discovered the two flats on one side of the rocker arm (part of the casting) stuck up farther than the rest of the side plane of the rocker arm side where the bearing presses in. So when the bearing is pressed, it doesn't go down as far as if the two flats were even with the rest of the side of the rocker arm. I found a 15mm socket that fit nicely over the trunion and just contacted the race of the bearing and gave it a couple of taps with a small hammer to get the side-to-side play down to 0.010" ~ 0.012" as the others.
BTW ... before I disassembled the OEM rockers I measure the trunion side-to-side on them to be ~ 0.020" ... seemed kind of sloppy to me. Wonder if having less side-to-side with the new trunion kit will help quiet down the valve train at all?
I used a 1 ton arbor press (mounted to my workbench) I got at Harbor Freight for $45 to install the kit .... works great! See attached photos.
