Default After cam install

Just finished up a cam install and she fired up but oil settled down to about 20 and my temp skyrocketed to around 250. As for oil i added a new ported pump from thunder and thought i was quite gentle while boltin up the oil pickup tube. For coolant i could not even get a full jug o dexcool in, even with it running. Any ideas??

TIA
Wicked

whats your pressure at WOT? or is that just the initial start up pressure? mine was at about 40psi after the first startup and settle down a tad after it was broken in but now its fine.

Thats initial startup pressure. It initially hit about 40 then dropped and settled to 20. Havent WOT yet. Want to give the springs some time and want to make sure everything is just right. Thx for the quick reply jrp

Is that 20 at idle? Does it go up as you raise rpm? If it stays down at 20 even at 2k and above I would call Thunder, Im sure they have experience with others who have installed their pumps.

General rule of thumb has always been 7-10psi for every 1000rpms...

After my car warms up i stay around 30psi at idle and 70psi at WOT. If your not getting close to this i think you may have damaged your O ring seal on the oil pump and it's sucking air into the pump and not pushing enough oil.

right now im gettin 20 at idle and gettin to around 35psi at 4500-5k.....dont wanna mash it too hard but not gettin as much oil pressure as expected. U think it has to b the ring or maybe the pump (there is another thread goin with a thunder pump with low pressure.

Thx guys

Did you install the double row chain at the same time? If so you may have installed the required spacers backwards which isn't all that hard to do if your not careful. Otherwise, it might be the "O" ring. To get some extra wiggle room which makes getting the pickup tube started into the pump input port you can remove the DRIVE and DRIVEN gears under the pump cover. Just remove the cover and take the gears out noting that one has a "DOT" on it which faces out. Now you can move the pump around a lot easier to get the pickup tube started into the pump body. Of course this is done BEFORE the pump mounting bolts or spacers (when installing the double row adjustable timing set) are installed. Examine the "O" ring closely for signs of having been pinched.
