Default cam for an A4

i heard about a custom grind cam from a friend the other day that would idle in an A4 without tuning but he didnt know the numbers on it. he thought it was a 224/224 cam but he wasnt sure. i dotn have the money for edit but i was thinkin about gettin a cam that i could use for now that will idle in my A4 without a tune. what is the biggest cam that will do this and not be too big a problem? any input would be greatly appreciated.

thats about as big as you really can go without at least upping your idle from what ive heard and even then you should consider getting tuned to get your a/f right

The TR220/220 558/558 on a 114 LSA should work without tuning. The TR224/224 561/561 on a 114 might also work but could be a bit more problematic.

I have the TR 224/224 114lsa cam,I also have LS1 Edit. The car started fine without tuning, but driving it was a bitch. It would die alot coming to a stop.I would suggest tuning with that cam.

I got the hotcam in mine, along with a converter. I played around with drilling and filling in the TB and reset the computer. It runs a bit rich but starts up everytime and doesnt drive bad at all. It never dies on me and has very very little surge. It idles around 850 right now, maybe a bit less but is perfectly streetable. The only thing I really need tuning for is to raise the limitor so it shifts higher and maybe to lean it out a bit. I have had it for at least three months, no prob

Your going to want tunning with that cam, so i would plan on it.If you dont plan on it,you will be stuck with a car that dies and surges all the time and you want a high stall converter with it also.

I think its depends on whether you'll be getting a converter. If so I'd do a converter first and wait until I had the money for the cam and tune. This way you could get the cam you wanted. Otherwise you may end up wishing you had a bigger cam when you go to get it tuned. Also I think you'd notice more from a converter than you would a small untuned cam.

your probly right snakekiller but with my tranny bein shaky like it is, i am gonna wait and get a converter when i can get a stronger built tranny. i lost 3rd and 4th back in july 2003 and had the transmission completely rebuilt. then it went out again in october due to some electronic malfunctioning of the "supposedly" all new parts. its goin good now but i still want to wait till i can get a better tranny for the converter. i was thinkin i wanted to go with a hotcam kit b/c a friend of mine saw great results with it but i wasnt sure if it would run without a tune. i dont want to go much bigger than that b/c i drive my car everyday. i put right around 28000 miles on it this past year so i dont want to go with something real big. i do want to get a tune sometime and i got some friends with ls1 edit i am just waitin to get a little ahead before i get on that with them. i just wanted to know what some of my options were with a cam before i decide what to do. thanks for the help fellas.
