317's aren't going to pump out much compression, even with .030 cut off. You'd have to sink the **** out of the valves and cut them .040-.050 to get any kind of decent compression. If you want compression, get a set of 5.3L heads and have those cut .030. I'm still interested to see what your tune looks like.
So comparing a car with a totally different motor that people knew 12 years ago had more low end grunt than the LS motors proves your point? lol. No. Let it go man.
Do you have a stall? Do you have a cam? I specifically was NOT talking about a fully modded car. I never mentioned any other mods. I simply said one with a stock cam, one with a 228 cam (no stall) or higher if you like in a race through first gear, where low rpm torque propels the car. No one even began to mention 3500 stalls. I think you missed the whole point. And for the record, give a stock car a stall with any ***** on street tires and you wont break the 2.0 barrier either. Reason being: traction. My 4k converter bust the tires loose at anything under 4k through second gear (usually about 50 mph) on dry pavement. On wet pavement, it'll bust em at 75 mph. Its hard for even drag radials to hook on the street or track. Case in point: I have seen bolton/camm'd LS1s get drug in the 1/8 mile by basically stock auto LT1s. Stock stall hits the gas and your gone, big converter or M6 means you are trying to feather out of the hole to keep from roasting them to the 1/8. talking is wasted effort....watch:
Close lane is a LT1 Vert (heavy) with only 4.10 gears/no other mods/225k miles
Far lane is a bolt on camm'd LS1 with 4.10s/textrailia clutch/fullexhaust/ls6 intake etc etc.
I know these cars because I personally modded both of them. They raced half a dozen times and the outcome was about the same every time. No one in their right mind would have seen an upset like that coming.
My point is made.....

I am sure the tune is **** but I read for days on how much to mill them and I really think I only did .020" not .030 like my sig says. I am looking for some heads and budget is going to limit me to some 243's probably. at least Ill have an iron blocked LS2! Damn I am not too happy right now......

probably just going to get some stock castings and put them on, funds are low this time of the year with the kids in sports$$$$$$$$$$ and school starting on top of our 2 vacations we took this summer! I am going to look and do some more searching before I buy anything and make sure its not the cam and if I will even benefit from adding 243's over the "lightly" milled 317's. May sell HP Tuners so the wife doesnt bitch too much

98's are a whole different animal due to the lack of tables you have available, and the **** *** slow processor. Honestly, that should be your next mod when $$ allows. Converting to an 01+ PCM with 01+ operating system.

I have thought about doing it but the hassle of repinning the connectors is not all that appealing but may be required. I am just worried about the 150 PSI compression right now, I know dont believe everything you read but I was expecting somewhere around 180-190 psi. I am also concerned about the cam, to be honest I bought it from the same guy that sold me all of the t-56 swap parts and everything went great with that. He said he had a lunati 228/232 cam that he was selling because I started talking about wanting to step up from my lil 224 .563 114 cam I had at the time and the one he was selling sounded great. I bought it and I know what regrind look like and its not a regrind but I could not tell anything about it from the SN or PN's so I called Lunati and the core was theres bit the cam couldnt be I.D. I really went by his word on what the cam is and no cam card I lined it up dot to dot. Just really frustrated right now, thanks for all the info damian and if I repinned and stepped up to a 01 pcm would that help ME tune my car better or so I need to throw in the towel and mail it to you, LOL

An LQ9 isn't going to have as much cranking compression due to the piston design, I wouldn't sweat the 150psi just yet.
Re-pinning the harness is worth it, and it's not that bad. There's plenty of stuff on the net to help walk you through it. As for the new PCM helping you, it isn't going to automatically make you smarter. .... You still need to do the proper research. There are TONS of stickies over on HPtuners.com, and your help guide in the HP editor has tons of info to get you started. The information is out there, you just have to absorb it.
But the 01+ PCM will make tuning MUCH less of a headache. No secondary VE tables, higher MAF frequency capability, much faster processor, etc...Tuning MAF or VE's using the narrow bands on a 98 PCM is a ******* nightmare.
