Default cam help......

hey everyone, i did a little reading on here about cams and wat people have/ wat kinda gains they had. with that in mind i am still not sure which cam to go with. i was thinking 3200-3600 stall max, stock 3.23 gears. already have all bolt-ons and 243 heads with dual springs and a valvejob installed. still on stock cam. i want to be at or over 400rwhp and solidly in the 11's in the quarter mile but with a reliable engine setup for the street too. my mods are in my profile under the garage section. i did a cam on my dakota r/t a 212/222 544/544 110lsa and need to upgrade because its not enough for the combo to run low 12's so i want to do the cam once and be done with it. i was looking at a few comp cams..........

1. XE lobe 224/228 duration with .534/.537 lift and 112 LS with my 1.85 slp rockers on top of it bringing the lift to ~584.

2. XE lobe 228/230 duration with .571/.573 lift and 112 LS on stock rockers

3. XE lobe 232/234 duration with .574/.576 lift and 112 LS on stock rockers

4. XE-R lobe 232/234 duration with .595/.598 lift and 112 LS on stock rockers

any help guys?? and wats the deal with the 224R and 228R cams on the XE-R lobes with the lift and duration being equal from the intake to the exhaust lobes? i thought the exhaust always had to be a few degrees bigger since the actual valves in the heads are smaller.......

lifts being the same is no big deal. you have tradional split cams, with more duration for exhaust, reverse split, with more duration for intake, and conventional (iirc) has the same grind lobes for intake/exhaust.

do some research in the dyno section, and also the drag racing forum, see what cams are doing well for others.

i would reccomend pat g custom cam, or talk to geoff at eps. some of the eps lobe cams are making great power!

i would do something like option #4.

I have a vig 3200, and 3.73 and i run a 230 cam and i honestly wish i got just a bit more cam. something like that 232/234 would be the biggest.

i was also thinking 232/234 but was just a little worried about running the XE-R lobe cams with stock rockers because i am not sure if they are strong enough to handle the spring loads and radical lift. may do the same duration on an XE lobe because of the gentler profile unless its gonna make a big difference in power output....

if you do some searching on here, youll find pat g, and stuff he does

geoff is enginepowersystems.net youll also find stuff about him in the dyno section. theres a few guys putting down 400-420rw through stock heads, and stock idle!
