Good low and mid torque cam for LS1
I would like to stir the soup a little bit.
I am in a process of closing a deal from a set of ported 243 heads.
This will not change the orinal goal, which was good low and mid range torque. Though it might change the cam requirements.
At this point I am still leaning towards to 220/220 lsa 114 or 224/224 lsa 114 type of cam. Still trying to avoid "smelliness" by wider lsa.
Opinions?

King, you should look into predator Z 230/228 on a 110 or 109 i think. a guy named RMTT is making some sick *** numbers with that cam and some LS6 heads.
Im also happy with my 230/227. I wanna see what this cam will do with some heads and a ported fast.
-great low and mid range
-want it to peak at 5900-6000rpm
-stay under .570 lift
-need an off the shelf grind
The thunder racing TR220-114 or a texas speed 220R-114 cam should be the best to consider. With ported 243s you should break 400rwhp still.
You pick a cam based off of the rpm range of your power and driveability. A high LSA (116) is going to create a late IVC event (intake valve closing) which will lack low end torque with a lower dynamic compression ratio. It will also create peak power at a higher rpm. The key for low end torque is an early IVC that matches your dynamic compression ratio, with that being said I'm running 8.8 DCR with 11:1 static compression, very responisve throttle at any rpm and runs great on pump gas. It's all about maximizing your efficiency.
Flow numbers for the the heads are as follows on a 4.160 bore. SF 600 Superflow bench.
.100 65 56
.200 148 112
.300 203 154
.400 251 187
.500 269 211
.600 280 223
.700 290 227
Before I put the car in hibernation I will get some dyno numbers to have a baseline. This will take place with in 2 weeks.
