Default stock ls1 piston ?
I was looking at some of my pistons this morning out of my 2002 z28 and noticed they had "MAHLE" stamped on the inside of the skirts . did nahle make the pistons for GM to use or were they added to the motor later

As far as I know those would be a set of aftermarket pistons, but probably stock size

they have flat tops and 3 rings and the numbers 56/22 on the piston head

I finished tearing mine down today and saw the same thing. It's got mahle pistons in it.
i can tell you this bottom end has not been apart. 103k

I've heard that Mahle supplied OEM pistons for many GM engines. Still might..

The Mahle catalog does list the original LS1 pistons, which are discontinued. They do still make a version with reduced compression height. Also they're aluminum like the originals, not hypereutectic (sp?) aluminum.

Mahle was the OEM piston supplier for the LS1. Had they just gave us a little bit more top ring land thickness!

Yea I know. thats why i put another engine in mine. could have just moved the rings down a tad.
