Unhappy Noob H/C question

I own a 2001 T/A M6. I thought that perhaps I could install TSP 224 .581 114 cam without tuning (at least not right away $$$ ) But... I may have found a deal on ported heads: 2.02/1.57 valves. Heads milled .040. Does anyone know if I could go without tuning - for perhaps a year? The heads and cam will use every bit of my savings.

Thanks

Its all going to depend on that cam really. A heads/cam combo that only spins to 6200 is kinda a waste, but as long as you can get it to idle with a hole in the throttle body you should be fine. People did heads/cam cars all the time years ago before tuning was so mainstream in the LS1 world.

make sure you have set of long tubes headers if you want the full potenial of the cam or heads.

do kill yourself just to get a cam or a set of heads and then have to drive a untuned car around,... thats no fun. if you dont have all the bolt ons...get them first....if you do then get the cam and then save some $$$ so you can get it tuned when you get the cam installed. a stock cam wont bring in enough air to get 100% out of the ported heads.

I've got LTs, and most of the other bolt-ons. I've got enough $ for a cam & tuning. I just hate to let the heads get away for 1/2 price. It would also be nice to install both at the same time. But if driveability is a problem...

Drivability isnt going to be much of a problem with a 224/224 114lsa cam, its just the idle. I drove my Camaro around for ages with all sorts of cams and it never bothered me.

Holy crap the heads are milled 40k --i would strongly suggest ,getting a professional reading on just how much piston to valve clearence is left --581 is pretty tall for a 40k mill --and do these heads need another 5k taken off for a refresh "prev. owners old head gasket" then you are talkin 45 min --if the head needs 10 taken off 50k!! -They may not be a good deal then -

yah heads arent the weak link for any gm car id get the cam that you want and tuning...figured cam/heads w/ no t uning might be worth 45-60hp but risk running rich or lean...tuned cam can grab you 40-60hp by itself and your a/f will be dead on JMO

Cam and headers, forget the heads, the headers will be a big boost and the cam cant breathe without them.

The heads have not been installed since the porting. I'm "assuming" I won't need anymore milling.
