Default LS6 Cam

You can forget passing smog in Ca. with long tube headers. I'm sure some people have found a smog station that will "look the other way" but those places are very hard to find. I have the LS6 cam with LT headers but I haven't had my car on a dyno or at the track since the install.

The LS6 cam doesn't start making additional power over the stock cam until you reach 4,000 RPM with peak power at 6,150 RPM. If you decide to go with this cam you'll need to raise your shift points (mine are set at 6,500 RPM) to take full advantage of the cam.

If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with a bigger cam (TR224). There are better "stealth" cams on the market that will maintain the equivalent drivebility of the LS6 cam.

BTW - I'm not worried about smog becasue I'll be transferring to Texas in June.

you dont have to limit yourself to an ls6 cam in cali, there are a handful of great cams out there that make power and will still pass smog:

212/218
216/220
T1/B1
tr220
tr224 114
tsp 220
tsp 224
comps 224
ls6 cam

the LT's is whats gonna get you. im running LT's and Duals and a T1 cam and just plan on swapping the LT's and duals out come emissions time. the ls6 is however a great plug and play cam, just need to raise the rev limiter to take advantage of the new higher peak.

I'm happy with it. CAM,springs,&retainers w/ tax came out to $386. No tuning was needed following the install. The car picked up 28.4rwhp and 8.1ft-lbs rwtq thru stock manifolds on the stock LS1 tune. I think +30rwhp is possible with this cam on stock manifolds. I made the mistake of changing the configurtion of the car before I dynoed (swapped LIDS) and I got KR on the pulls. There's plenty of guys making 360rwhp on stock heads with this cam and LTs.

The following is what the car picked up at the track (same track, similar weather, cam only mod added) using the stock LS1 tune.

____SLP LID,K&N______LS6 cam/springs,SLP LID,K&N
60_______2.321______2.315_______________________-0.006
330______6.004______5.917_______________________-0.087
1/8 ET____8.995______8.828_______________________-0.167
1/8 MPH__83.10______85.29_______________________+2.19
1/4 ET____13.771____13.474_______________________-0.297
1/4 MPH__102.77_____105.84______________________+3.07

Since then I picked up an HPP3 and adjusted the REV-limiter (now 6600RPMs) and shift points (~6350RPMs). I'm waiting on new tires for track runs.

With the 02 LS6 cam, LS6 intake, MAC's w/OFR-Y, TSP lid, SSRA, cat-back, Yank Y3200 and tuning I went a best of 12.49 in 70 degree weather. Considering I bough the cam and springs used for $150 it was great bang for bucks mod.

Stock rwhp was 290 compared to 348 with cam and mods.

You just need to think what your long term goals are. The ls6 cam is a nice upgrade but you may outgrow it too fast.

Heres a graph of what I did with an LS6 cam and the other mods in my sig. This cam idles and drives like stock but comes alive about 4k. The red graph is with all the mods in my sig except the headers, the blue graph is with all the mods in my sig. Heres the graph. LS6 dyno graph

i knew this cam didnt make the best HP when i bought it.i almost sold it.glad i didnt.it offers stock driveability at a great price and makes descent power which is what i wanted.

though my dyno #s didnt show i think i run fairly descent times considering my 60' isnt great and im still on stock ehx.stall, and gears.

ill be adding a stall soon and it should compliment it nicely.

INTERESTING
everybody was telling me I would be lucky to hit 350 rwhp. Now we are saying 400 is possible? Do LT's add 50 rwhp or something? A4 don't suck up that much power.....do they? Someone help me out because I am confused as hell.
