ouchies.....im glad mine didnt come out like that. im pretty sure my pistons are stock though after comparing to a few other pictures. I would think if they were "aftermarket" mahles wouldnt they be full floating, which mine are not. I measured mine a little bit ago and got 3.898" in diameter. Either way if my pistons weren't stock from the factory i still need a new set of pistons so it really doesn't matter to me although it would be nice to know if these were the stock pistons.

Why do you need a new set where yours damaged or did you just decide to upgrade

im willing to bet those are stockers. im going out to the garage in a little, ill look at my 02's and see what the underside and rest of it looks like. ill check a good one too, and report back.

but the stock ones have coated skirts on them. at least my 02 ones do.

if those were aftermarket pistons, why wouldnt he upgrade to new rod bolts?

Late LS1 pistons were coated, early LS1's are not. I have not seen enough of them to determine exactly when the change was made.

Yes , I would say +1 that some years were Federal Mogule pistons , some of the seals I've seen were FM and some pistons were Mahle . I just hope the factory Mahle slugs were the usual 16% silicon as opposed to a replacement Mahle I bought 4 a 5.3L that is 12% silicon .
