Check out ls1howto.com That should give you an idea on what tools. Also get or borrow a good torque wrench.

DO NOT FOLLOW THE CRANK PULLEY INSTALL. EITHER GET A LONGER BALANCER BOLT OR INSTALL TOOL.

Since you have a C5 you won't need as many band-aids!! I did everything with basic tools. Only had to buy a couple sockets I didn't have and a pulley install tool. Everything else I rented from Autozone.

No need to pull the engine.

You can make your own tool, get a M16 x 2.0 threaded rod (6.5" long) and nut+ washers (2)

C5s are easier than Fbodys. You have to pull the rack out to get to the balancer though. Put the car on jackstands, remove the front wheels and disconnect the tie rods then slide the rack out. You'll need misc metric sockets and wrenches. Make sure you have 1/4 and 3/8 drive. If your buying the heads together you wont' need a spring compressor. You'll need a torque wrench and a sharpie to mark the head bolts. I've always put the balancer in the oven then tapped in on enough to pull it up with a old bolt but its not a good idea. The threaded rod is 100 percent better.
