I am thinking of getting the 232/236 (MTI R1) in my 382 stroker! I hope it idle well. I have the MTI X1 (230/227) and it idles almost like stock with my LT's, no cats, and stuff, see sig. But, it drives like a stock car will do! Until you floor it! I want more power in my 382. I am pushing 450/447 at the moment. But, I am hoping to see 470+ rwhp with the 232/236 cam and a pair of ported LS6 heads.

So, what you guys think? Did anyone use this cam?

A pair of LS6 heads and a larger cam would definitely make more power than your current setup. I would honestly look into something along the lines of a 238/232 with ~.600 lift for those heads.

I was thinking about something like what you said, but I am planning to do N2O. I think that split duration would be better.

I said I think! I am not sure! I have no idea how it would idle. I hope it would be good at the streets and won't give me any problems!

Props to the "R1"...Have nothing but good things to say about it. Works great for my set up with awesome "daily" drivability...MTI's R&D on their cams are second to none !!

505hp/497ftlbs. w/LS"1" Heads and my little Mac headers. 701hp/797ft.lbs with the TNT.

I would say it's a good cam...

Funny you should mention that RuffSS, I ordered a 232 single pattern cam for the last 382 we just finished (after the cometic gasket fiasco) Right now, the car has a TR 230RSP cam and according to the dyno sheet, it's too small meaning we left quite a bit of peak HP and TQ on the table. The dyno results with the 230 cam were 447/439SAE with a correction factor of 0.97, actual numbers were 458/448 Through a 33 spline Moser 12 bolt/4:10 gears and a steel driveshaft through an open Borla cat back. The "tell tale" way I figured out that the cam was too small is that it makes the first 400 Tq as low as 3,100 rpm and the HP peaks at 5,900-6,000 rpm meaning I can dump some of that low end torque and concentrate more on higher duration for some better peak HP numbers. A 236 cam is the mathmatical match for his heads/cubic inches, but .. as usual, I always yeild to the smaller cam for better streetablilty and emmission compliance. So yes, I would go to the 232 cam right from the get go providing you have an excellent set of heads <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> . The 230 RSP cam in this 382 idles stockish, and is very docil until you lay into it.

Joe, have you ran a 382 with the 232-236 cam? How was the idle? What LS?

Black Sunshine, The 232 goes in this weekend along with a new set of QTP merge headers, then, I am going to schedule a re-dyno session and I will edit it this time around. The new sheet will be posted. I don't have the cam card in front of me to answer the LSA question but I will re-post when I get to the shop.

In my sig you see I don't have an all bore but with your heads I don't see a problem at all with that "R1" in your set up. Good luck !!

I'm building a 382 stroker now and have considred the MTI R1 cam as well...But..I am happy with my present Lunati 226/226/554-114...What does Lunati have to offer?

I will change to the R1 cam very soon and I will post the dyno #s. I am still thinking about the LS6 heads and which company to go with! I know they are all good (and that’s what makes it very hard to choose which one to go with!

JPR, I am almost sure that you could gain a lot more with the 232/236. I figured that it will make somewhere in the 475 range with that cam and LS6 heads. The cam that I have right now (230/227) it good but it peaks @ 6000 RPM. I thought that it was very small cam for the 382 when I saw the peak HP @ 6000, peak TQ @ about 4200, and the stock like idle. Also, I think the 232/236 cam will be very friendly to N2O.

If anyone has some audio or some multimedia links to this cam in a 382CI please share!
