valve tip wear??

valve tip wear?? well i took my valve cover off to replace the gasket on the drivers side and notice this.. thats the only one that looks like that. the heads are afr 205's. what would cause this? and why to only one valve?

Did you check the wipe when assembled? Looks like that valve may have worn down as the valve stem is mushed down pretty good. You should see where the other valves were contacting the heads and have the valves check for hardness. What heads are those?

i didnt install the heads i just bought the car like 2 months ago. and the heads are afr 205's.
heads are coming off.
needs a new valve, retainer and lock at a minimum
cause?
-bad valve is possible, but im doubting it because that usually happens in batches, and chances are yours all came from the same batch
-incorrect rocker installation/shimming/whatever
-too much lash... possibly valve float
you can see the retainer has rotated... valve float comes to mind, but i dont know how much rotation is "normal"... if any at all...
the damage to the retainer and keepers was caused after it mushroomed the valve.
i have the car towed to a professional with it still assembled and let them check spring pressures, seat pressures, lash, preload etc etc etc so you can find the cause so its not repeated on reassembly.

OK, stop there. Contact AFR. Not sure on your particular heads but there was an issue with soft valve stems a some AFR heads a few years back. AFR took care of the issue. Hard to believe there are any still around that haven't been corrected. Can you get the history of the heads from the prior owner? Once you break through the thin hardened layer you will have this issue.

afr 225 heads I got a 04 gto with a 402 that slp bilt with afr 225 heads and all the valve stems are wore down, got two that isn't and did a swipe test and they swipe fine! i'm waiting for afr to call me back and i also heard they had a valve hardness problem.
