You may not know what your A/F is though after the fact, or what duty cycle your injectors are reaching. I drove a 222/226 cam for 4 months untuned on a completely stock setup minus valve springs and pushrods. We did a baseline pull on it and then a tuned pull and it was like a 19rwhp difference once we got the bugs worked out and the fuel right. Mail order would work, but the more you do to something the more its going to need a finer toothed comb pulled through it. Feel me?

From my own experiences I didnt mess anything up and I romped on it quite a bit. Not that I suggest everyone do that, but most people can feel when they are reaching their limits or when its not smart to drop the hammer on the throttle. If you are conscious about it being untuned you probably will take care of it sooner than later. Look at it this way though. You will need a good tune later on and I wouldnt get a mail order tune for a FI application. (No offense to the mail order guys). Get the full tune now and go back for a retune as you piece it together. Some places charge 25$ for that if not free in some instances.

@ -23.5° degrees of valve overlap.....no one will even know you have a cam in that car.

Every cam needs a tune.

Period.

One of my best friends put a 98 ls1 cam in his 01 T/A when the engine threw a rod because it was almost free and was a little bigger. His car has worse manners than my car did on a poor mail order tune. It is a pain to start, sounds like it's loping, and hates to idle.

I don't know what your tuner offers, but mine offers discounted rates on retunes.

My tuner charges 500 for the original tune, then an hourly rate for retunes. Think its a little over 100 an hour.

I would do the pump then can and tune then blower/ injectors and returned.
