mid range cam question

Default mid range cam question

So I don't know much about cams in ls1's or how they respond, but I did have a lt1 camaro that I installed the hot cam kit on. Anyways I ran it with my friends lt1 vette before and after and before it would always be about even tell about 80 he would start pulling on me pretty good. After I put the hot cam kit in it would be even and than at about 85 I would start pulling away. I never like that I did the cam and my 0-75 was never any faster. So I am wondering on ls1's what is a good mid range cam that gets the car running better 1/4 times, rather than just top end? Like a cam that is the same in first gear, but really starts pulling harder than the stock cam when it hits 2nd at like 50?

Also my car is auto and im getting a 3200 stall before the cam...

I think you should look into the 228R camshaft. It has a very broad powerband and should give you what you are looking for. The TR infront of a cam means it is from Thunder Racing.

Got a question on the 228r from texas speed.. Is the lift .588 with the stock rockers or with 1.7 ratio rockers?

1.7 ratio is stock on an LS1.

Might look into the EPS 226/234, great low & mid range cam.

I would use a high 220's low 230's on Comp LSL lobes or get Geoff at EPS to spec you one.

EDIT: MM98 we are thinking along the same lines.......

224>228 range cam will have plenty trq with thr right amount of overlap. On stock cube around 8>9* overlap for best street results.
I recommend SS3600 Yank, unless you live in an area with lots of hills or climbs then a tighter converter is better.

I see what you mean with the stall to get more in the rpm band, but I just don't know if I could convice myself to throo $700 or more on a stall. I mean chris at circle d is cutin me a good deal on one for almost half that.

Yea I hope 3200 will keep me up in the higher rpm enuf for the cam.

Almost all vendor's cam specs are with the stock 1.7 ratio.. It is also advised to NOT use a 1.8 ratio rocker arm with most of those cams as well.

Ohh that is awesome! lol I was thinking it was like all the lt1 cams that show the specs with the 1.6 roller rockers. So I can just use my stock rockers. That will save alot of money. Camin it wont be as exspensive as I thought. And alot easier because the oil pan gasket on ls1's are not connected to the bottom of the front cover are they? Also wont have to deal with any optispark b.s.

Another question I had was what lsa to pick. I know the lower the lsa the chopper it is, but I have also heard it makes the cam make power lower.. Is that right? I am thinking about a 112 lsa probably if thats how it is.

You may have to drop the front of the pan to seal the corners with some RTV once you put the front cover back on

Another thing I though I seen on one of the cam swap guides is that you don't have to adjust each rocker and turn the motor over like the lt1. it says you just put the rocker on and tighten it down to 22ft lbs? Is that right? If so wow thats easy...
