Most Cost Effective Way to Built a 10.99 Second Car? plz help!!
Car: 1998 Trans AM LS1
5.7 V8 , Automatic
I assume for a 10.99 second car...it has to have maybe over 450 rwhp
Rules
1. N/A
2. Can't lower weight 3,440 lb
3. Budget: $6000 - $10,000, will install everything myself (no welding)
4. No Nos.
5. Daily Driver
What are the best mods for the best price? product/brand names? Hp added?
Cam?
Heads?
Ram Air intake?
Cat back?
Long Headers?
tune?
etc?

Well if you nearly triple your budget you'll have a better chance. If it was that cheap, everybody would have a 10 second car.
Yank ss4000 stall, AFR 210cc heads or similar, MWC 9" rear with 3.50's or higher, 230/230 or bigger cam, tune, intake, LT's, Custom Y-pipe, Cutouts, built tranny, tires, suspension parts, SFC's, intall parts + odds and ends.
That's already $12,000+ and I'm prob leaving stuff out...
If you allow a massive weight reduction and nitrous you should meet that budget though..

There's other things you can take out, A/C, heater, all emissions, take the spare out, carpet and replace with a cheap alternative, relocate the battery, Billet Specialties wheels, BMR kmember, adn anything you dont want to use, radio.
For 6K, i say a 228-236 lift cam. Try custom or see what numbers people put out, get a 4000stall, 364-370ci block, and spend money on good heads, light flywheel, headers, intake, and do a custom ram air to go with your filter like the sux2bu ram air.
most importantly search.

Your goal is going to be hard without weight reduction. Here's what I would do:
Ebay LT headers, TSP y-pipe, cutout - $450
Yank PT4400 w/cooler - $900
TFS/AFR heads w/t-rex, MS4, etc - $3000
Tune - $500
Drag Radials/Slicks - $400
That should get you in the low 11s if not high tens if you can race in some good air. Your tranny or rear probably won't last long, so you should budget for that also.

I pretty much agree zracer323. Here you can only pick two of these FAST RELIABLE CHEAP. You can do a bunch of weight reduction and have it still appears stock, So to do it on a budget your going to have to live without some comfort stuff. It will take work to do this and a few tricks and you can get it there.

patriot 243's 59cc, torquer2, fast 90, ported 90 tb, morel lifters, lg pro long tubes without cats, corsa pace car catback, meziere ewp, RPM level v 4l65e, vig 3600, built rear end, qa1's all the way around, bfg drag radials, absolutely no weight reduction(even extra **** in theback), decent air, tuned, 11.05 at 123, but in a vette and more than 6,000 lmfao.

NA is going to be very hard to do with a full body car. My cousin has a 404 stroker with TEA ported TFS 225 heads, FAST 102, custom EPS cam, 1 7/8 headers, Strange 12 bolt with 3.73 gears, QA1 shocks and a 3600 stall and has just barely broken into the 10s with a full body TA. They are heavier than a Camaro in stock form...just a little FYI he has more than $10k in his motor alone. Almost $3k in the rear end and $2500 in the transmission. You have to pay to play. This car drives like a champ too.

You guys are acting like a 10.99 car is some kind of huge feat unless you gut the car and put a huge cam in it. Check out this thread...

^ This guy was running low 11s with an EPS baby cam, 243s, 3500 stall, 3.23s (still on the 10 bolt), conservative tune, and full bolt-ons. He thinks it could run a 10.9x with better air and more traction. I would imagine that if the 243s were ported then that setup would run high 10s all day long. This is well under the OP's $10,000 budget... hell, it's under $6,000 if he does most of the work himself.
All that being said, I wouldn't let the legality of nitrous put me off from using it. I'm in VA and there's plenty of people spraying here. Pretty much any car you modify to run 10s is going to be illegal in some way or another. Modifying your exhaust makes your car illegal and there's no way you're running 10s with stock manifolds and stock cats.

i would have to say the FIRST thing you get is a built trans. id get a flt level5 (with billet input and output) with a yank 3000 converter.
do you have 3.42 gears or 3.23 gears? your rear end may live for a while
next i would invest in some lca's, relocating brackets, torque arm/relocation mount , and a panhard bar
some lowering springs and a nice set of shocks.
there you have about 5k invested and your cars drivetrain is pretty much good for a low 11- high 10 second pass.
now i would suggest you do an 04 ls6 cam and a rear mount turbo!
reason i suggest this is its fairly easy to install ( just like a exhuast) ... and you said you dont want to weld/hack on your car. and you wont have to worry about melting anything with the hot turbo up front. oh and you can also keep your stock manifolds!.
you can find some decent used "sts kits around here for 3 grand! or a new one for 5
FYI . im goin pick up a camaro this weekend hopefully and besides the trans( mines a m6) this is the same route im going . same steps too. cept ill probably have a 9" to handle the 6 speed abuse!
total sleeperish
