Default Lack of fuel?

OKay my 98 t/a has been acting up a lot lately. Wife tells me i should sell it and get another car....

Hear's the run-down. You can hear a popping noise coming from the tailpipe in the exhaust. Sometimes on cold starts it makes a slapping noise coming from back of engine possibly no. 7 cyclinder. Doesn't always feel peppy for a bolt-on ls1 f-body until above 3k RPMs. engine is bone stock and no aftermarket tunes.
Thanks

Start by getting codes/pending codes pulled or better yet get a tuner to look at things.....

dash doesn't show any SES lights. it just feels like there's no low end tq, it moves once rpms go above 3500ish rpms. i'm workinge on finding someone to re-pin a 99 or newer pcm so i can buy a diablosport preditor. i have one for my 02 and love the thing so easy to use.

'Limp mode' codes won't necessarily throw a CEL.

Get a scanner, and see if there are any codes. Also try cleaning your maf, check your plugs, etc to eliminate those as possible causes.

okay, so the car has been running normal, but now according to a GM tech2 it's misfiring and there's still a popping noise in the exhaust tone, could it be an injector starting to go bad? I don't get any SES codes/lights, just the noise. Someone mentioned possible burnt valve...
Any thoughts?
