no diffrence after porting?
I picked up a set of stock 706 heads off a buddy and have a buddy at work who's good friends with a machinists who's been doing all types of cars mostly muscle. He was going to do a 3 angle valve job as well as bowl porting and mill the heads for $250... I then asked to see about how much for the bigger valves such as the ones in the tsp heads I believe they are 1.575/2.02 and he told my buddy he has a set of 853 heads fully ported with the same size valves that were never paid for that he will let go for $500.. my question is after putting the work in either a 853,706 or any other casting is their any advantage? Am I better off just picking up those 853s? Thanks
one thing to look out for on the 706's is if its made by castech. These seem to have a history of cracking. They aren't all made by them, so its worth a look.
The 862's are also a truck sand cast head.

They are still there because he don't really have a ls1 market. Does great work. I seen pics of them look good. How can I tell if they are castech? They are stock
If its quality work, and you can get them for 500.00 with a GOOD solid valve job, blending and ported runners, thats a damn good deal. i can tell you from experience, a good, solid reputable porter is going to cost you around 500.00 just for recutting the valves, doing the calve job, and bowl.throat blending. So thats fairly cheap for a fully ported head. Granted, a set of 243's with the same valve job/blend would likely make more power.
Yea he's done a lot of work and just real good friends with my coworker that's why I'm getting hooked up. I can get the same work done on my 706 heads but he said why not just buy those since there done and sitting but said if I really wanted he can do mine to. So I should just get the 853s then and sell my 706s?
