Hey fellas zo6 cam vs epp 220/220 cam?
Hey fellas I'm going to hook up with Patrick G an Geoff to build me a cam so I was looking at a 220/220- 565 568 on a 118 lsa how much better in whp is this cam over a 02-04 zo6 cam?

What's with the 118 lsa? Almost any 220 cam that's aftermarket is better than the z06 cam. I would get something like a 220 224 on a 112 or a 114. Both should pass emissions no problem and the 114 is a bit more stealthy if your looking for less chop

The LSA will make for less tuning hassle, maybe need none
to be drivable. I have a 224 on 116 (picked for that reason,
over a 114 or 112) and it's needed a fair bit of fiddling. The
downside to wide LSA is, you will lose low-RPM torque. More
an issue for a M6 car than an A4 where you can use the
converter to put you where you want to be for RPM all the
time.
My setup isn't anything spectacular for torque but is very
smooth around town - it turns into a slingshot at about
5000RPM.
I couldn't quantify how much better, but it will be better
for sure. If you are up for more effort you can do far better
still, going to a 224 or 228 range cam on a reasonable LSA.
But only you can say how much you are willing to trade
manners and stank, for performance.
The dyno section, if you dig deep enough, may have some
examples for you. Bearing in mind that the tuning and other
hardware have significant parts to play.

IMO, the 220/220 would be the better cam choice.
A 220/220, 115lsa will have a -10* overlap, and should be really smooth running and give you a power band in a better rpm range then the 118lsa w/-16* overlap.
No need to go so wide on the lsa, but that's your choice.

Only reason I like the high LSA is because I have it hard getting a good tune out here plus I have to sneak this cam in because I told everyone at the race My rear acting up "but its not" I just wanna sneak something in without them knowing , and I think the 117.5 is the lowest I would go.
Now a 220 /220 565 568 on a 117.5 lsa what would that do for me rpm wise?

IMO, dropping down 1/2lsa isn't going to make any difference at all, I would at least drop down to a 116lsa.
214/218 114lsa , 216/220 115lsa , 218/218 115lsa , 220/220 116lsa , all would give you -12* overlap.
You could even go with a 214/220 115lsa for -13*OL, or a 214/218 115lsa for -14*OL
Regardless, I would at least drop down to a 116lsa.

you can get a mail order tune from Frost for $125.get the cam Patrick specs for you ,you won't regret it.there a few people here that truly understand cams ,and I am not one of them.just trust the people who know what they are talking about.

Doesn't matter how good you are, you're only going to get it so close remotely. Every car is different.

While Frost is the ****, there's no point in paying for a mail order tune where Frost isn't near the car to get it perfect when you've got guys like Geoff or Patrick right in LA for tuning. Those are 2 of the best tuners around. No mail order tunes needed. Geoff @ EPS is also a sponsor here.

While I'd personally never go with anything less than a 228, I know each person has their own reasons for what they want. I wouldn't rule out a slightly bigger cam though.

The overlap is a factor of lobe duration size and and the LSA . You can have the same amount of overlap (negative or positive) on 10 different cams, but still have a different power band on each one. Yes, more -overlap with all else being equal will make for a smoother running/stealthier cam, but there will be less torque and it will at a higher rpm, and it'll also shift the whole power band up in rpm some (please correct me if I'm wrong).
Just moving the LSA up isn't necessarily the best answer. Moving to a higher LSA a little (1 or 2 degrees) doesn't change much, but will definitely make the car smoother running, but shouldn't/can't replace a good tune. Wouldn't you prefer to be able to have a power gain you could use on the street without going above 4k to use some of it? I know I would.

Here's a 220/220 115lsa cam (-10* overlap). Start the video a 2:58.
