LS1/LS6 Timing Chain Dampener

LS1/LS6 Timing Chain Dampener
Well after calling all over North America and searching the web for hours I cannot find the old tan part #88958607. My 05 CTS-V had an LS6 with the black part #12588670 for the later motors installed from the factory.
I thought about modifying the one I had, but I wasn't comfortable with it, or
wanted to spend that amount of time.
Anyhow....
I got some material that was designed for forkilift back rests with 5000 lbs. loads on it. The mateial is a dense plastic that can be used in an oil environment, handle large compressive and shock loads, and it's shatter proof. I put a piece of it in the oven (and my wife was totally fine with it, she's the best!) and it showed no signs of sofenting until 285 degrees. The factory on softened slightly at about the same temperature and the dowels for the bolts fell out of it.
Here are some pictures of the first rough piece. I will make 3 more prettier ones now that I know how I want to make it. All the engineer types on here let me know how you feel about this material for the application.

Don't know much on the material based on the description, but the piece you made looks good. Did you trace the outside of the LS2 part and then use the correct bolt spacing?
I have often wondered why one of the vendors didn't start making these parts since there is a good demand for them and the original is no longer available.

I remember calling around when looking for the GMPP damper a few years back. I Called Pace and he looked up all the dealers in north America and found one in a small town in Nebraska. I called them up and sure enough they had it and had the best price I had seen yet. Not sure if there are any deals like that now. Most blocks without the holes can just drill them for the newer ls2 style ones.

This was a part that GM Performance Parts made until it was recently discontinued. The dampener reduces chain "whip" on the slack side of the chain. I have read quite a few posts that there is a harmonic vibration that occurs in the chain and breaks it. It seems to be mainly for road race cars that are in this RPM range for long periods of time. On 04 and later engines it is a factory piece but the bolt spacing is different, and there is the reason I made my own.
I have thought about making more and selling them. Now that I've made two, it doesn't take that long to knock each one out. I can fab parts with some ease, but I'm still making it by hand.
Thanks for the nice comments as well, you never know what people will say about something you put time and effort into.
