Default valve lock question

Can you really use the stock locks on titanium retainers for a dual spring at about .650 lift. I know the springs are Patriot golds with Titanium retainers and machined cups.
Or do you have to use a higher strength like a "Super 7" or the like?
PLease, help...

You need the right angle lock to match the retainer otherwise they wont ft together correctly. That being said, I would get the matching set for the retainers you plan on using.

Yup 01ss is dead on, they are engineered to work together as matched components, the angle promotes greater clamping strength,,,or so I have read

I'm with you guys on that... but, I was wondering if anyone knew if they are "supposed" to be the same angle from the beginning. Sorry, if I'm not wording this correctly...lol
Do the Patriot gold kits usually come with the new locks in the kit...?

I was under the impression that Patriot used a different lock (slightly higher angle) and if so, then stock locks shouldn't be used. Give them a call and verify.

Yeah the lock must match the retainer. I believe Patriot uses a Super 7 lock in their kits. In the PRC kits we use stock OE locks. We looked at other locks and have seen them crack from time to time. We have been running OE locks for our kits and have NEVER had a lock failure. As long as you use the right lock that the retainer is designed for you shouldn't have an issue.

The PAC 1521 kit with TI retainers uses stock locks, as does the comparable Comp Cams 921's.

Sad, in that I didn't have stock locks when they did my heads (they had a Patriot "gold" kit that uses bigger ones).

You need to match the lock to the retainer. I would NOT do any sort of mismatch.

The Patriot kit does NOT use a stock set up, at all. I found that out yesterday.

So I have Patriot locks and retainers on a PAC 1521 spring.
