I have a 99 formula ls6 intake, Pacesetter longtubes (Race), ORY, Magnaflow Catback, no EGR, smooth bellow, K&N filter, SLP Lid, 3500 Stall, MSD wires, and a mail order tune. I am getting a cam installed as we speak and a dyno pull was done for a base line before the swap and it was 281 whp 288 wtq SAE corrected on a Dyno Jet. The AFR was at 14.9 and 15.1 uncorrected. I have been reading threads that bolt on LS1's make well over 300whp and i was wondering what might be causing these numbers. The mail order tune was done before the stall was put in but i dont see how that would effect the numbers that much. Will and AFR in that range cause this or is it the tune?we also compared my dyno results and curve to a 99 camaro that was in the shop that just has a lid, filter, stock manifolds, cats, and a catback tuned that made 319whp and 326wtq.

The AFR is out a whack, hence the tune you have is not set-up properly. You really need to dyno/street tune the car after the cam swap to fully optimize your set-up. A mail order tune will work to get you going, but most likely will be leaving power on the table.

Thats reasuring. Those numbers are just for full bolt ons. The cam will be fully installed tomorrow and then it will be tuned on Friday. I was just wondering were i should start looking if the dyno is showing very low numbers. What would be a ballpark estimate with the tsp v2 and all of my bolt ons?

Idk how the mail order tunes work but if it wass possible should have tried iit back on the stock tune but now its all about the numbers with the new cam. Update when you get the new numbers interested in the gains.

Dyno numbers don't mean much. What kind of ETs does it run? My car put down 296 RWHP with a lid, longtubes, ORY, and a cutout. Two weeks before the dyno pull it ran 12.7 @109 with the stock gears and converter, full weight. Faster than many stockish LS1s at that dyno day that were putting down 310-320 RWHP. As long as it runs fine then don't worry about it.

Here is a quick picture I took of the first run on the dyno. The red is my car and the blue is the 99 camaro with similiar mods without longtube headers. The AFR is is in the smaller graph below. The highest point on the red AFR is at 15.1. It appears that my mail order tune was off for what it should have been with my mod setup.

Your car is way lean. Bring the Afr to the blue line or slightly under and your graph will look not only smoother but probably the same power (or more) and your engine will live longer. That AFR is unsafe in my opinion and cold weather will not help the situation.

AFR should be roughly 12.5 on the dyno (at least for a safe tune) it will run leaner on the street (12.8-13.2) depending on altitude. After the cam swap and tune.
I would check your air filter (make sure its clean) clean the maf, check plugs, and do a fuel filter...... if its still lean then its time for a pump.
There is an actual answer
