Has anyone heard any news about the 5.5L 4-valve V8 that's been promised for the last ten years or so?

By the time you get DOHC on an LS it's going to be the size and weight of a big block, so why not just go with a big block?

Factory GM LS engines have been proven to out perform factory GM big blocks.

In what way? I'm no BBC expert but I would imagine a properly built 540 BBC could put down a lot of power, and probably be a lot less time and effort than trying to put DOHC heads on an LS.

he said factory

my 78 C10 is faster with a cam only ls1 than it was with a cam only 454

ls1 definitely doesn’t have the low end grunt that the 454 did but that’s just cubes

Don't need DOHC's a 2,000 HP capable standard deck LSX block is really a better overall engine design than the older GM production blocks for making power. Don't get me wrong I love the BBC but a boosted 5.3 in stock form can out perform a performance built BBC. How much do you hear about BBC's being turbocharged? I'm not talking about $6000-$10000 BBC blocks either. A twin turbo'd LSX427 on methanol would be pretty nasty!

We were talking about an LS with DOHC, so I'm just not sure why we would compare a factory BBC to a highly modified LS with DOHC.

I agree, I think we're talking past each other right now.

If GM even made an LS style engine on a BBC bore spacing that would be the best V8 ever made in the history of mother ******* V8’s

I'm sure it's a badass setup, but I just don't see it getting big. It'll be good for big power drag cars I'm sure, but it's not going to get swapped into everything like LS's will, and that's just because it's not being used in a performance application where the aftermarket can thrive. That and I think most people want diesels in their F250s and F350s, so I the market isn't going to be flooded with them by any means.

Ford just went BACK to pushrod also for the HD stuff and that engine so far is pretty wicked. The "Godzilla" *dry heave*

Well, it was a step in the right direction, but I would like to see a much better flowing head. Why even bother trying to keep the complicated canted, offset valves, when an online setup worked so well on the LS. I know the new 6.6L will be good enough to compete with Godzilla 9n the production hd truck market, but for hot rods, off road and racing, I'd like to see a 4.840" bore spacing with inline valves and raised rectangular intake ports. Or, maybe they could just develop a good small cross section port on the DRCE casting for the 8.1 block, then make a new casting with as cast ports ready to run, and able to outflow all these high dollar, finely crafted bbc heads that are using every trick in the book to overcome the ancient, flawed from the start bbc port layout.
