Default Concerned about oil psi

Bought a 2000 6spd car... I have owned a few before, this one just doesnt seem like the oil psi is like the others... It idles around 850-900 rpm's... here is my symptoms, and what the car does.... car has 89k miles..

Cold start up in morning (40psi)

Worm up for 15 minutes (30-33 psi)

Drive down rd accelerating to 3500-4500 (50-55psi)

If im cruising in sixth gear at around 1500rpm and hold it to floor for a second or to it will fall just like a few pounds then come back up... Car runs great and makes no noises I was just a little leary on oil psi readings.... My other 6spd cars usually start up around 55-60 psi and idle at around 40 psi...

Anybody have any suggestions or Think its ok

ThankS Chris

Those pressures look a little low. I would check the gauge related stuff first. Freshen the grounds on the back of the cylinder heads and connections. You could also check it with a mechanical gauge.

10psi for every 1k rpm is good rule of thumb. but if it worries you then install a new oil pump. mine jumped to 75 cold and 50 hot idle, 65 hot driving at 2500. thats with a melling high pressure unit.

what kind of oil is in it now and what filter is being used. I just ask cause when I bought my second trans am it had cheap bulk oil in it and it was the same psi you talk about. I changed the oil and filter when i got home that night with mobil 1 5w30 and a pf46 factory filter and know i have 60psi on start up, 45 to 50 psi idle, and 70psi at wot

I would replace the oil pump with a SLP/melling pump, i have a lot of oil pressure with this pump, 75 when cold 60 when hot

altho I hear from manny GN guys they anly have 15-20 psi of oil pressure at idel and 30-40 driving , i know thats old crap and LSX is a new world but The GN guys say thats normal oil pressure

that oil pressure isnt really that bad to much oil pressure isnt good either i have always been told u need to be more concerned about the volume more than worrying about the pressure

and i have also heard rule of thumb is 10#s per 1000 rpms is plenty

your fine, nothing wrong.look up GM's specs on oil pressure,it's a lot lower than what you would think.
even back in the day with the SBC most people ran too much pressure.

your engine's oil pressure is fine. my 99 ta shows like 25psi HOT and 50 or so at 6k and has for the last 60k miles. this is according to the factory guage, of course. i know a mechanical guage would show different numbers, just not sure which way they'd go haha.

sbc "rule of thumb":

a gen 1 required 10lbs/1k rpm to be "safe"..

the gen 3 engines only require 7lbs/1krpm.

mainly due to more efficient oiling, but also because there is less clearance between bearing surfaces in gen 3 engines. i believe the gen 1s rule of thumb was 20-30thou and gen 3 are 10-20...when verifying clearances. been awhile since i've scoured my gm high performance book ha.
