Default Lq4 rebuild questions.

Hello.

I am buying a completely tore down lq4 on Wednesday, and am needing a few questions answered.

Everything is included with the motor, but since the motor is tore down I think it would just be wise to rebuild it.

First question, is where can I find a rebuild kit decently priced?

Since this will be my first complete engine rebuild, does anyone have any links to where I can see a complete rebuild on this motor, or even LS1/LS2?

Also what some good material to use to rebuild the motor, such as a book, or a dvd.

Thanks allot.

Tyler

The motor is a 2004.

The motor is actually really clean, main bearings look great, piston walls are very smooth.

Is there a lip at the top of the bores? You may be able to run it like it is. Why was it pulled? How many miles?

It was pulled because it had sat for a little while and a ring had stuck. Yes the lip is still there. 60k.

If the walls are not scarred up you may be able to slightly hone it and re-ring it. If you are on a budget.

They are not scarred at ALL.

So what are some recommend rebuild kits?

Edit: Didn't know the past tense of "scar" was spelled with two "r's".

I'm sure its me, but I can not seem to find a single damn thread, or video where someone has tore down a motor. And then rebuilt it, I am a visual learner.

I dont have much experience with building LS motors yet. But, I have built plenty of small block chevys. The last kit I bought was form CNC Motorsports. I am sure any of the vendors on this site can help you out.

I think you have to use the LS1 crank.

I am am going to use the stock Lq4 crank, because it looks fairly good.

Plus I've did a rough price mock up last night, I am looking at $6,000.

I am buying the motor tomorrow, so I am going to give it a good look over. And then start ordering parts.

But see my main problem is not being able to find **** in a kit.

But to double check, will all of these bearings work?

Main Bearings

Rod bearings

Cam Bearings

Also whats a good gasket kit, I do not want cheap gaskets.

i got a lq4 outta a junk yard for a deal man...truck was a 2001 and had sat for 2 years...took it to a shop to do rebuild on the bottom end and turned out great....only thing i wish i had done was go with flat top pistons instead of the factory -2cc disc...so as another member said....why not 408ci
gaskets depend on the pistons too...if you deck your heads you will need a diff. thickness/better gasket with flat top pistons...but if you leave them in your comp. will be around 9:5:1 i think....also cnc motorsports has good prices too!!!
glw build

I'm leaving the motor the way it is. Perfect motor for a turbo, so about 2 months after I finish my build I am going to aim for 8psi, and leave it at that goal of 550 to the rear wheels.

Call Texas Speed and Performance. They have GM gasket kits.

If u plan on turbo. Just get the 7 layer mls gm ls9 gaskets. Designed for forced induction by the general. Less than or round 100$ shipped from gmpartsdirect or other gm sources

Gmpartsdirect is confusing. You have to know parts numbers, and the search auction they do have shows about a quarter of the parts they should.

Or just get from SDPC or TSP in Texas they are both sponsors on here. And it's a popular gasket for forced induction builds
