Default Timingchain slack?

I'm starting my cam swap and don't know if I need a new timingchain.
It seems the time to change it but will require oilpump removal.Does the pickup tubejust slip out or will mess up an o-ring? There is a little slack in the
chain is this normal? Milage is 60K but I've used sinthetic oil from the start.
Opinions wanted,
Jim

I just pulled my motor apart and have a 90k motor. When i saw my timing chain it was horrible, it had so much slack i could almost putt it off the gears. There shouldnt be much slack at all, but i dont have a definate number to give you. Comp cams sells a really nice timing chain set up.

depends on how big of a cam you are going with. anything over a .570 lift i would change it no mater what the mileage. anything smaller id change the chain if over 50K miles

I did my cam swap at 40k miles and the slack was disgusting! I would HIGHLY reccomend getting a new timing chain, as well as a new oil pump. If you can't afford any more downtime on your car, you should be fine, but it's risky, and once you have done it once you wont want to do it again.

I won't lie to you, getting the pick-up tube back into the oil pump, with the o-ring in correctly and the bolt in, took me about 2 hours, JUST to get the bolt started in the hole. Others say this is the worst part of the cam swap, if you are changing the oil pump or timing set, or both. But it's piece of mind that you may not have if you leave the stock ones in.

All stock timing chains have slack. I wouldn't worry about the slack too much. It is good to change your chain if you have 30k+ miles and are installing a new cam though. Chain choice is individual preference. They will all get the job done.

Thanks Guys, If I lift the chain on the cam sprocket it has very little slack,it is loose between the sprockets though. On my bikes the worn chains and sprockets let the chain lift.I may be sorry but I think I'll just swap the cam and button it back up. It's .560 lift so I have to swap valve springs too.We got 300k on a '00 shop truck now it still runs good so the milage isn't that high.See yawl in San Antonio , Jim

Ps; If it don't last I'll try a 5.7
