torque plate with stock head bolts?
Who's goes thru the trouble of torqueplate honing their block with cheesey OEM fasteners. That hardware is garbage IMO.
And yes....to properly size and check main bearing clearances you have to constantly torque to full spec, mic/dial-bore gauge your clearances....perhaps do it again (and again), before you disassemble it for final assembly and start over.
You cant do this without buying numerous OEM fastener kits or taking the plunge on ARP
I would simply tell your customer this is the way it is....
After all is said and done its also nice to know your critical engine fasteners don't feel like a rubber band at full torque.
While it sucks to have to pay the premium....to do this job right practically leaves you with no alternative.
