Default Quieting down exhaust

So, I'd like to quiet down my exhaust.

Setup: no cats, long tubes, magnaflow catback, hotcam, ported heads, z06 intake

Will adding in another muffler screw with my 02's? Will it effect performance?

Thanks~

Look up Car Chemistry Exhaust Inserts- Also called "CC inserts"
Great product, Ive got the dual disks on my C5 with Longtubes n borla had
horrible drone and was way to loud, cops would follow me everywhere. Its still loud at WOT but at idle and below 3000 its great, people say it robs HP but I couldnt tell no seat of pants change, and even if it does you can always unbolt the pipes and pull them out anytime. Mine mounted b4 the muffler in the pipe. They have options on how quiet you want them by spot welding closed and slotted end caps on them, I did the slotted caps, u prolly could get by with-out the caps on them if you want it just abit less noticible, also you can spot weld closed caps for max sound reduction, any questions you can pm me, goodluck man. Also try looking up the cone style inserts also.

just looked this up, very interesting. sounds like its a lot easier than a muffler. so you just cut the pipe open and weld this thing in?? How do I know if I need the 3 disk or 2 disk? ( i am assuming the 2 disk is less sound reduction than the 3)

Umm just depends on how much quieter you want, my vette has true duals so i have two-2 disk inserts(one in each pipe) just unbolted the pipe and slide them in b4 mufflers, on a fbody if u have the single y pipe u would prolly wanna go one 3-disk and use the slotted end cap, remember u can always pull them out and do some cutting on them if they restrict to much, always better than not enuff to start with. You could actually cut off one of the disks if you think it was to much restriction. I really couldnt believe the difference it made, it made my vette fun to drive again and not have to worry bout cops or waking the town, plus I can have mine out in 45mins. They are very cheap compared to high-clow cats. Also you can stuff steel wool between the disks to even muffle it more but its really not needed.

thanks man, great info. im gonna go ahead and order a 3disk. so you just disconnect the catback, slide it back in, and close it up? no welding?

My two were tight enough that they didnt need a weld and they couldnt move anywhere even if they want to. It does say you can hit it with just a tack weld if needed but I doubt that it would need it, you should be able to tell right away. I had to tap mine in with a rubber hammer because of the perfect fit, just make sure you order the correct size.

Before you go off and make the mistake (my opinion, of course) of buying the Car Chemistry inserts, read this thread:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...-question.html

The thread is old, but people have proven with actual dyno results that they kill power. I mean, just look at the damn thing...you shove that contraption in your exhaust, and it isn't supposed to kill your exhaust flow? This isn't rocket science, and I can assure you that those inserts don't redefine the laws of physics only in their vicinity.

Can you link me up to a good muffler? I already have the magnaflow.. so i'd be placing it before the magnaflow?

Okay, so i'd lose power from the insert.. but wouldnt adding a second muffler have the same effect?

A second muffler might cause some power loss, but that depends on the type (the loss from a bullet muffler would be very small), but I guarantee you it would be less than one of those inserts.

ok, so weld this: http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...oducts_id=1141 in to my y-pipe?

how many decibles would this reduce? the cc-insert is saying 5-7. i'm assuming this would be comparable?

It would tone it down some, but 5-7 dB is a LOT considering 3 dB is half. I don't think that muffler would even come close to 5-7 dB.

I vote high flow cats. Also you might want to look into buying a used SLP dual/Dual muffler. They sound great, flow just as good as your magnaflow and are very quiet (for a performance muffler)
