Possible Reluctor Wheel Problem

Default Possible Reluctor Wheel Problem

New 454 LSX block, Callies 4.10 Compstar crank, Eagle rods, Wiseco Pistons,10-1 Compresion( soon to see turbos), All Pro LS7 Heads.

Inital break in fine. Car ran 10.38 @ 132 new best on motor with 10-1 pump gas. Second run about the same. Third run 10.50 @ 130 Car idled a little different but not bad.
Next week 75 shot, car left fine ran 10.40 @ 127. Felt flat on top end. Car won't idle, pops out exhaust when accelerating. Checked plugs perfect, checked valve train, good. No codes. Once car gets to 2000 RPM it will calm down and run fair. Changed crank triger, cam sensor, and O2 sensors. No luck. Fuel preasure good. Put HP tuners on it and got it to idle some what @ 1200 RPM. Looked at the headers and they were red hot at and idle. Seams like the timing could be way retarded. Will try a new Computer Monday but I'm not hopefull. Seems like timing is way retarded. Could a shiffted reluctor wheel do this? Any body have this happen or have any idea. Thanks for any help.

Stop doing the replace everything game. Figure out whats wrong before ordering the parts, that gets expensive fast

Next, the reluctor ring wont shift unless something hit it. It's pressed on, and for higher builds, generally tach welded on

If it got progressively worse then a part is failing. Start with the basics and go from there

This problem has us stumped. We have checked all the basics. I thought I would post this before I pull the pan and check the relucter wheel. The glowing headers at an idle has happened to me before in a cam swap in a distributer motor that had the timing retarded, thats what got us thinking about the relucter wheel.

I fought a problem,on my stroker that ended up being a bent reluctor wheel, but it threw a crank pos. sensor fault every time.

Mark the balancer and check the actual timing with a light.

Thats our next step. I have a 2 piece timing cover that is marked at top dead center with the balancer marked as well. Would anybody happen to know when the motor is at TDC with the crank triger removed if the reluctor wheel has an identifing mark you can see.

Used HP tuners and added 20 deg. all across the board and it idles and runs good. Will pull pan and try to see if I can tell how much it moved. If we can get it back to the correct position and keep it straight we can tig weld it to the crank with out pulling the motor.

I remember a few threads on here, one with a pic showing the reluctor from behind the crank. If you search for "reluctor wheel" you could prolly find that pic...
