Which part of Oil Pickup Tube does Oring seat on? (pics)
Okay, it seems like everyone is talking about how difficult it is to get the oring not to "roll" or "pinch" but I can't figure out why?? What do people mean by this? I have a brand new oring and was just wondering which surface it seats on... picture #1 or #2. i'm quite sure is as shown in #1 but I don't want to screw this up!
#1: Up against the ridge
#2: On top of the ridge

Everyone's a comedian.
I would like to know also. My opinion is #2 but that is strictly a guess.
Can you tell by looking into the block opening if there is a place for the o-ring to sit like you have it in pic 1??

I agree on on #1. My pickup had a black mark from where mine was sitting before disassembly.#2 is sketchy to me but both make sense but #1 makes more due to the fact the bubble on the pickup presses the prong against the machined grove in the pump. But I'd still want a GM techs opinion

I own a GM service manual for my 98 and am looking right now! It doesn't specify if its against the ridge or all the way on, like trader said I bet its against the bump and not all the way on. the bump is probably there for this reason.
The crucial thing the manual states is this
IMPORTANT: Push the oil pump screen tube completely into the oil pump prior to tightening the bolt. Do not allow the bolt to pull the tube into the pump.

#1. The metal ring of the pickup tube then exerts equal pressure on the o-ring.
If you put the o-ring on as #2, when the pickup is inserted, the (blue) ring may not seal well.
If you use the green o-ring, which is fatter, you might be able to get away with #2.

Bump! TTT!- Was just getting ready to put the oil pan on. Glad I did a search first to make sure on this pickup tube.
I couldn't even get the O-ring to sit down in position #2 like above it just kept popping back up before I could take a pic.
Hope this is clearer for everyone to see. #1 Seems to make more sense. Maybe its pushes up to #2 when fully pushed in and the bolt torqued down.
