usmonaro, long tube headers are an absolute must when modding these motors.

Well the 243's were given to me so I already had them to start. I have maybe $1000-1200 total in my setup and it gained 94rwhp and 70rwtq. Headers and exhaust would've been $700+ atleast and I might've gained 30-40rwhp/tq.
I knew I was going to need them but I know I could get by til I get them on there. I can't wait to get some, like I said that is definitely my next goal.

I was looking at headers, they make some that are stock manifold length, and they make longtubes. If I go longtubes I wont be able to use a bolt up catback system. Which way should I go. A friend told me if I got longtubes he'd fab the rest of the exhaust and recommended flowmasters. I told him I don't want this thing to sound like a truck. What would you guys suggest?

Any cheap brand lt's with a tsp oryp will work with factory catback. Id go this route and put a cutout in the factory catback for sound and extra hp when needed. i used hooker lt's and got em shipped off ebay for 260. Another 150 for oryp from tsp. whatever a cutout costs and shop labor to install and your there.

He has a GTO.

I can't believe you threw that cam in your motor without any exhaust work. Get some LT's and you will be pleasantly impressed.

Just run some OBX LTs off ebay for $295...paired with an ORY. Stay away from the Flowcrappers...they're the worst performing catback. The SLP Loudmouth is cheap and bolts right up to most ORYs...just hope you dont mind the angry loud raspiness of it. That's a whole exhaust for $600 or around there. The majority do full exhaust before internal engine, because now you're going to do exhaust and have to retune, instead of having just one finalized tune.

Edit: just saw you drive a GTO....on mobile Tech so can't see sigs. OBXs are still only $495 and then do cutouts on like JRenigar mentioned.

FYI- LT headers are definately worth getting over shorty headers.

tune. def the tune.

drivability with the T2 is not bad at all, it just needs to be tuned well. you may be able to get a little more low end with some timing and injector timing changes.

As has been said, headers, exhaust before cam. LS1 TECH has a huge amount of info, you need to read it before mods so you are aware of whats needed before you come unstuck! and trust me, you will.

Are you on a stock clutch with the cam? Granted you don't have a TON of power, but depending on how old that clutch is (how many miles), you might be blowing through the clutch. Adding almost 100 horsepower to a stock clutch that was barely designed for stock power is really pushing the limits of it. When I was 4l60e with a 3600 stall and the torquer V3 i would chirp 1-2 and 2-3 on 255 drag radials. Now with the exact setup but a T56 swapped in, I don't chirp any gears.

Turns out it was the clutch. It was slipping so badly that it made it feel really soft.

Stage 2 clutch that grabs great. Its been hell on my leg here in this heavy traffic at Rod Run. Car is doing great since re-tune. Only averaged 21.7mpg on the day here though.
