close that it's splittin' hairs, however the reason people are suggesting to
go custom (EPS) and particularly with 8degrees more on the exhaust is
because unlike your cnc heads which flow about 80% exhaust to intake
ratio where as the unported 243s he's running flow between 66 and 70%
E to I ratio. Again its not that the 243 ex port is terrible but rather the
intake is so good for a production casting that this ratio is on the low side
and more exhaust timing would just help. Plus several people are making
excellant power with some of the newer lobe technology

Look at my sig for my #s the xr281 needs good tuning for an auto. I'm posting this from my cell phone so I can't see if you have an m6 or a4. If it's an auto your going to want a good converter for this cam.

I would like to hear from people who run these cams or similar ones
Also i was wondering if I would have any piston to valve clearance issues with the comp cam. remember they will be going in with milled 243s (0.030")

i have 243 heads with my cam 228/230 571/573 112.My 243's have stock sized valves, they are milled .018 and i am using a cometic .045 gasket. My setup would be pretty much the same as milling .030 and using a stock mls gasket. My PTV clearance on my intake was .085 and exhaust was .110.The exhaust might have been .120.I just know i had enough clearance.I have it written down in a file i can double check it later

Not sure what you guys are talking about with the cam surge and shitty gas mileage. My car gets excellent mileage and pretty much no cam surge. The only time it will surge is if i make it surge.I also spent some good time tuning my car myself, and then switched it over to Speed density. My car runs real smooth now

i love my XR281. behaves very well and gas mileage is great. i've seen 15 in the city but after my 3.73s my highway mpg record went from 26.5 (<--with 3.42) to 27.45 (if you can believe that)! my mods are in my sig. it's a good cam, man.

FYI my previous setup was a bolt on stock engine with LS6 intake and the cheap headers with a COMP XR273HR (220/224 .531/.534 112) and it put down 371rwhp/372rwtq, had torque off idle with a noticeable tq gain around 3k, and drove like stock. never got mpg figures from it but i couldn't tell the difference between bolt ons vs the cam. it was a blast to drive, i'm sure some ported 5.3s would have been awesome with it too. but after seeing my mpg results i'm glad i bumped up the size a bit. but, there's a good option for ya. if you wanna see my dyno sheets i have one for both setups.
