So the guy thats machining my heads had two cams sitting around that were lightly used. He is selling them for 250 each, but i wanted to come here and ask to decide which is the best choice.
the first is a 228/230 .571 .573 on 112LSA from comp cams
the second is 226/226 .585 .585 on 112LSA from patriot
my car is already making 350rwhp as is and the next step are milled (0.030") 243s, the cam, and UD pully. Id like to be sitting on at least 400rwhp after all of this.
On the other hand my car is a daily driver and i drive atleast 50 miles or so a day and with gas prices going up as they are i dont want to screw that up too much (im currently getting 20mpg average a week). but if i could squeeze out more power without much mileage loss ill be happy.
which of these is best for what i want? should i continue to look? if you think you have a better idea let me know.
extra info: my car is a manual 6speed with stock 3.42 rear, my main thing when i say driveability is purely mpg, i dont care if it bucks since you can control that with clutch.

The 228/230 112lsa Comp cam looks to have XE lobes, and would be easy on the valve springs, with quieter valvetrain.
The 226/226 112lsa Patriot cam probably has Comp XER lobes(more aggressive than XE), so it would probably make power equal to the 228/230 except for the very upper rpm range, with louder valvetrain and spring wear.
Both would be a great cam for a DD.

I am very happy with the Comp 228/230 (XR281HR). I have stock 243 heads and a FAST90/90 and QTP longtubes. My setup made 420 rwhp on a Mustang dyno. But my car is track only. My previous cam was a Comp 212/218 115 LSA XR265HR which I think is a better choice for a DD. The 212/218 makes good power and will easily pass smog. The 228/230 will need a good tune to eliminate hunting and stalling at idle.

Gotta say I like this one here.....Geoff makes these sticks compatible with
918 springs....a .600 lift is theoretical only...lobe lift times rocker ratio, with
push rod deflection, rocker deflection, and valve in guide movement, it
will only actually move the valve about .575-.580.

I've got ls6 intake, edlebrock long tubes, hooker cat back, ported truck tb(truck tb is 80mm) k&n cai, walbro 255, and hypertech tuner that I picked up for $50, however I didn't have the hypertech tuner At the time of the dyno. The dyno I used was a dynojet. Put down 350rwhp w/ stock tune
