Wink Best brand cam??

Who makes the Best Camshaft? Should i get an aftermarket or just go with a GM Z06 cam for my LS1? Just looking for something simple not crazy horsepower.

ZO6 cam isn't really worth the effort in my opinion. This is a HUGE area that you need to research as far as what your goals are and how drivable you want it, what other supporting mods are you willing to do with it, A4 or M6, what gears/stall etc etc etc etc

I know you said simple and not crazy HP but still

You have a TON of reading to do if you wanna do it right.

Our CheaTR V3 would be an excellent choice considering your goals. In many cases we see nearly 400RWHP with an M6 LS1 car. We usually see upwards of 430 in an LS3. All with stock like idle and drivablity. With stock heads, that package would start at $599 including springs, pushrods, and cam. The car will also run without a tune, but for maximum performace, a full street/dyno tune is recommended.

IMO,there's a lot of better options available than the Z06 cam.
Do some research and get the basic understanding of what a camshaft does.

If I were doing a mild cam set up, I would give the people at Texas Speed a call.

This forum is great because of the members, but we need supportive vendors. With that being said the supportive vendors we have all have great cams and will be pleased to talk on the phone to help you pick the right cam. Just read some threads and you will find the right vendor.

1. any shop that uses comp grinds. pick one.
2. lol screw the z06 cam brah...go aftermarket. preferably custom ground.
3. almost every shop out there has very "simple", streetable cams that all make respectable low-midrange power. Thunder, TSP, EPS, speed inc, vengeance, cam motion, futral....and the list goes on.

I've been reading for a week and can't pick a Brand, I want something simple. I have New 799 heads with new valves and yellow springs and am going to keep these springs. I've read the springs can handle up to .570 lift, that's where I want to be. It is an A4.

If you want to keep the factory springs, I could cut you a grind that will work but it will be VERY compromised.

Thanks,
Shane

GT2-3 would be a good choice for stock springs and converter.

We recommend new springs and pushrods with any cam. Although the GM yellow springs are better than a stock LS1 spring, most of your aftermarket cam profiles will require a spring with more seat pressure. Our cam packages with cam, springs, and pushrods start at $599. If you're interested, shoot me a PM with what you are looking to do with the car and we can definitely get you setup with a cam that will get you where you want to be!

Thanx for the linx I will start reading them tomorrow.

$150 for good springs allows for a better power producing cam. it you will need new push rods also.how many miles are on the motor?have you looked at a gm hot cam ,or ASA cam.

278,000 that's why I want to stay close to stock. Don't have $3500 for a ring job.

Dude, this has to be a joke, right? You have an engine with over a quarter of a million miles and you want to cam it? How about a complete rebuild or better yet a crate motor. Members, if I am out of line with my critique, let me know.

The LS6 cam is by far the best choice of camshaft on the market for performance gains, drivability and mpg.
