Default need help.. coolant/oil leak from left head

i finished my head n cam swap, i used ls1howto.com as reference. i torqued the head bolt as said by the ls1howto.com. is there any way to ck make sure they r torque right now that everything is all together by taking the rocker cover n headers loose?? my left side head seems to be leaking from the rear. it looks like its coolant n im not sure if its mixed with oil. any help please.. my car is an 01 camaro ls1. oh when i open the oil filling tube it was smoking some out of it.

To re-check the headbolt torque - properly - you'd have to remove the intake manifold, rocker covers, exhaust headers and go from there. I'd consider cracking them, then re-torquing as per specs and run the engine. Be sure to clean up all of the residual fluid prior to running it, so that if there is fresh stuff there, you'll know you've got an issue. If it continues to leak, you've either got a gasket problem, or a head / block surfacing problem.

What gaskets did you use and were the block / heads cleaned up properly?

Smoking out of the oil-fill tube may simply be some burning off of water / coolant in the oil - some will invariably get in there during a head/cam swap, or it could be other foreign substances introduced to the parts as you assembled them.

Good luck.

I got a gm multi layer gasket from Texas speed. It came in the head cam swap gasket kit they offer. N yeah I cleaned the block really good. Thanx I will remove everything n retorque the bolts again. Man I hope that fixes it..

If once I retorque the bolts if it's still leaking n I get new head gaskets, should I get the multi layer again or should I get the graphite one??

Graphite head gaskets are more forgiving....

I hope you didn't loosen the bolts up. They are torque to yield so you'd have to get new bolts aswell as gaskets I'm sure.
As in left side you mean passenger? Did you put the coolant plug in?

Yeah I didn't want to loosen them cause I know they r not reuseable.. Once I took the intake off I saw the little plug in the rear of the head leaking. Where the x pipe goes for 98s mine has like a plup with like an oring.. The orange was bad.. So noe I'm running good. Now to break the heads n cam in.. Thanx for everyones input..
