Default oversize main bearings?

I purchased a used ls6 block that is in pretty rough shape. Threw about 3 main bearings, and did quite a bit of wear. I would like to get a align bore but i was told i might need oversize bearings, any input would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Nothing wrong with having them turned. I had my crank turned .030 on rods and .010 on the mains just for good measure. Mine runs fine.

I would have the shop that turns the crank order the right bearings for you to make it easier.

How much are the 3 thrown bearings over? You might be able to just cut the caps and line hone it back to standard diameter, then you can just use standard bearings (unless you are using a turned crank, then Clevite sells bearings for .01, .02, and .03 under size). Hopes this helps a little.

Your machine shop can tell if the block is salvagable or not. If the main bearings spun in the block, it will need to be align bored unless it's too badly damaged. If repairable, they will remove about .010 from the block surface of the main caps creating an oblong main bearing bore. Then they will machine it round again restoring the factory diameter for proper bearing crush. Regular bearings sized for your re-ground crankshaft can then be used.

The only side effect is your crankshaft will now be about .005 closer to your camshaft. A .005 shorter timing chain is then used to maintain proper tension. Good luck, let us know how you make out.

its a the shop now, initial response from the machinist from just a glance was that its pretty bad, and he fells either welding to replace whats missing then machine it back to stock, or look into an oversize bearing, but i will know for sure in a couple of days. thanks for the input, your guys are always a big help.
