oh ya 285's will fit easy I run 295's out back no problem. I would go with a 17"F 18"R if you go staggered the 19's just look too big IMO and that is a lot of extra weight.

Stick with 17's or 18's, 19's aren't going to help, they'll probably make you car slower.

The low rpm torque won't be as good as the 228, but that won't matter with a 3600 stall.

I'm not gonna run it with the back rims on there. Gonna put et streets or 555r on the old rims for the strip

Depends on rim size.

555s are a waste. Go et street drag or radial.

glad to see you got your lazy *** on here, instead of having your mustang buddy teach you about your car. LOL

stay away from 19's. 17's or 18's are better and cheaper on tires. like everyone says, start with a 3600 stall and sticky tires and your in mid 12's easily. add a mild cam, LS6 intake manifold, ported 243's and tune and your talking 11's

the bigger stall alone would beat the mustang

Lol that's all I'm worried about. Only reason I wanted those rims cause their black with tires only need one on the front for $400 the c6 vette wheels.
He has cam afr heads and all the little extras. But I'm gonna get him. The next one will be my other friends 455 rocket bored .030 over. But he won't get off his butt and get it sleeved and machined.

He will need more than a stall. he is down about30- 50 horses and about 500 pounds.

Would I need to get better valves if I put dome pistons in?

Now you are wanting to do a 347 build?
If you want some peace of kind just do rod bolts. Will allow you to spin high and not worry.

Was he kidding when he said you ran mid 13s@106ish? My 98 with a lid and muffler ran that. A nice converter and sticky tires would blister that et. Add an intake lid exhaust and a tune and it would trap several mph faster as well. This is assuming that really was what your car runs.

What does your car really run? If he wants to match or best your et/mph and we dont know what It truthfully Is, were just swinging our dicks in the wind.
If this Is just a friendly rivalry it shouldn't be an issue letting us know what it will take to reach his goal.

I dont think you know what a properly set up head cam or even cam only setup is capable of et or mph wise.

My tires are crap. He runs mid 12's @ 112-114ish the rusting does. I haven't done much I have lt headers and full exhaust true duals w x pipe k&n filter 4:10 gears shift kit um.... I think that's it. Wanting heads (243) and cam was gonna rebuild lower when I got those thinking forged would be best?

You are talking minimum 2k for going forged. Wait until something happens imo.

Full bolt ons and a nice converter with a tune and tires will match his et and mph, slight advantage to you with the et, slight advantage to him with the mph.

Add a 228r and that's high 11s with a couple mph higher than him.. Add heads and mid 11s@118 or so, aka not much of a race.

I mean no offense when I say this but I thought he ran much quicker than that. You don't need a cam to beat him... A cam would guarantee a win. Heads would make It ugly.

Buddies setup... FULL weight 98 trans am 273 gears ls1 intake stock tb aftermarket lid long tubes xpipe before axle ptc 4000 converter. first and only pass with this setup got 1.6 60' 7.7s@88mph in 2200 DA. could have hit 7.6@89 that night. added a 228r and a tune and ran 11.7@113 with 2400da.

Just giving you a similar setup to compare. That's a DD budget setup.
