Default Is it worth porting my stock heads or no?

So I recently replaced cam and oil pump since the car smokes a little blue I wanted to replace the seals on the heads on my stock heads which are from my 1998 camaro z28 I believe they are 863, 853, 806 heads which ever sounds right anyways would I see an increase in hp if I get these heads ported.

You would see a little bit of a power increase, we are usually looking for an extra 10-20rwhp. I wouldn't expect as much as if you ported a 243 casting but they still respond to porting. Another good thing to do is see if you can get them milled a little, extra compression always helps these motors.

Little blue smoke scares me-do a compression check to make sure motor is ok.

it will be cheaper to find some 243/799 for $400 and just bolt them on .maybe look at some TSP PRC heads .

Properly worked on, stock casting have dished out 40rwhp+, as with everything else, "properly worked on" is the key.

What exactly do you mean by "properly worked on"? I'm considering having my 241s ported and polished. 40whp wounds great...can you go into more detail?

why do people think a compression test will tell you where or if you are burning oil. Compression tests will tell you.......guess what?.......wait for it........COMPRESSION!!!!.

does it smoke worse under load or does give most either when you first fire it up or take away from a light?

also check pcv system.

Its a good sign and test to tell if the rings are bad-thats why I mentioned it. Duh!!! 90 percent of the time-blue smoke-bad rings not valve seals, pcv. Love these kids on here on write like a second grader.

Search is your friend. There are dozens of us on this site of whom have ported 241's w/ great results. Search here for porting threads & the dyno section for results (usually associated w/ cam swap results).

Again, please search. The subject is a beaten horse that keeps coming back to life because people don't use the search feature.

It would be better to buy some new ones. If you do not have alot of cash the prc head is a great way to go. If you have a few bucks and want a top product(like i do on my car) the AFR or TFS head are better quality and will net you a nice power gain. Either way,get some new ones.
