Default Compression ratio and boost

Would running 9.6-9.8:1 on a iron 347 and 8-12lbs of boost be safe or should I run lower?

you'ld be fine @ 8psi with 93 octane and like 15-17 deg timing
or else run on E85 and give her 12lbs.

That and the fact an iron block can handle boost better than aluminum block is why I was thinking no less than 9.5:1 CR but maybe closer to 10:1 on a conservative tune . . .

No, I'd like to run it on 91. I forgot to mention the FI I'm goin with is a P-1SC . . . "looking" smog legal for a tech is key. The cam I'm goin to run will be the newest CheaTR cam-217/230 117LSA, good for smog and for boost and with stock sound an inspector will be fooled

at 12lbs you are no where near stressing out an aluminum block, these aluminum blocks take over 1000 horsepower all the time. An intercooler/aftercooler will help keep the temps down depending on what form of charger you will be running.

It also depends on your elevation. Are you at sea level, or up in the mountains?

as long as you have forged internals you will be fine. the stick LS pistons tend to let go after long term use of 10# of boost or more. read the supercharger thread, and look at the survey on the sticky how many miles it took to blow their motor and how much boost they were running

Either the twin smaller coolers or the one large FMC will be purchased

Trans Am-wow quite a few guys running aluminum blocks and being successful too. The engine will be a whole new engine so iron or aluminum, it won't be the current LS1 in the car. So some thinkin to do

I know guys running 14-16lb. boost on daily drivers using pump gas. But their compression is 9:1 & they all have forged bottom ends. Safety is all in the tune & how much you like to beat on it.
