Just any regular oil will do fine. No synthetic for at leat 1000 miles. Regular oil os better for breaking in the rings. After a freash motor, I usually run about 20-30 minutes then change oil and filter. Then run about 50 miles and do the same. Then change every 500 until 1500. Then resume normal and use synthetic if you want to.

I did the same thing after my install. We also dropped a little bit of oil into each cylinder via the spark plug port for the 1st start to help coat the walls.

After my new pistons and rings were replaced a few weeks ago I used regular Valvoline 10W30 and drove it like I plan on driving it. Break-in to me means just to get them to seat right so I figure reg dino oil and drive like you plan on driving everyday and I changed back over to Mobil 1 around 1000 miles.

I never had good luck babying it like the manufacture says to do ...you know.....drive under 55 for the first 500 miles but no steady speeds...etc.... I say just get in and drive!

I opened her up once in awhile on the interstate and drove an average cruise of anywhere between 75 - 90 at times.

Some may agree or disagree with me but the above is just my opinion from my little experience.

It runs better and smoother now than it ever did. And no more piston slap at this point...I will wait and see how that holds up.
