Are the LS6 2002 stock springs on an LS6 head casting OK with the following cam:

1. TR 227/224 .569/.563, 114 LAS (TR split reverse)

If no, what springs should I use?

I would say no, that would make me nervous. I would want some good dual springs with a big cam like that, although there is people using CC 918s with that amount of lift.

I asked Thunder Racing this question a few months back when I was collection parts for my head/cam swap. They said NO WAY! The LS6 springs are a good upgrade for factory and HotCam cars but nothing more.

I had my valve seats cut for the Comp 987 duel springs that Thunder Racing sells. They are overkill for this cam (TR told me the 918s were fine for this cam) but I figured...what the heck...it only cost $50 to have the seats cut while they were being ported and larger valves installed. I did it and will never have to worry again.

FYI: If you go with heavier springs, you will get more ticking. You hear people say "my engine sounds like a sowing machean.....", well....with those 987s, my engine sounds like an entire TEXTILE FACTORY!!!!! TICK TICK TICK....you can hear it crusing at 80mph <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Nothing is "wrong" with it, its just the result of the spring having such high closing force that as soon as the cam lobe drops off, the spring slams the valve closed tight.
